You can't compare Miami to UNC in that time period. His talent was suspended. Otherwise, he would have won the ACC his 3rd year at UNC - from a non-existent football program to ACC Champs in 3 years. He built an NFL team at UNC.

That is a valid point. I would point out, however, that we also only have limited information. I am confident his agent has likely been contacted but maybe the right deal from the right program simply hasn't come thru.

Golden instructed a staffer to wait until nobody was around to give Teddy Bridgewater a free meal during an off campus meeting. Just because the info was obtained illegally, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Also, Butch has beaten multiple top 5 teams in his times as a head coach, while Golden is yet to beat a team that finished the season ranked.

Look, people need to knock this **** off. The absolute reality is, that IF WE COULD get Butch back, he would be BY FAR the best hire UM could make, and its not even close.

He knows the layout. He is a great talent evaluator. He has a **** of a lot of HC experience now, much more than when he first got to UM the first time. The guy can flat out find great talent. He may not be the best gameday coach of all time, but he can find pretty **** good coordinators.

Butch is the absolute BEST HC hire UM could make for the success of the football program.

HOWEVER, I think the likelihood on that, as I have said repeatedly, is extremely remote at best. MAYBE if Shalala was gone, but I just have a hard time seeing it.

There is no need for people to try to downplay that he would be the best option.

THAT SAID, people also have very selective memories here of Butch. No one seems to want to remember anything before 99 and 2000. Butch did have his struggles here, and was CRUCIFIED for horrible gameday coaching. He never really "got over the hump" until he got Dorsey, who finally put it all together.

He was owed $2.7 million total. I mention that only as reference. The buyout is probably overstated either way.

Personally, and I happily admit I have no evidence for this claim, Butch feels like he was screwed by UNC and wants them to keep paying as long as he can.
