I think ppl need to give the 2000 season a fresher look. To this day, no team who beat the consensus # 1 and # 2 ranked teams and have one loss or less have not played for the national championship. Butch didn’t chit the bed, the BCS screwed us, and every objectional person knows that. I’m not even talking as a Canes fan.

He built up a **** poor UNC team. For everything Mack Brown did for UNC football, John Butting did the exact opposite. He’s now built up a FIU school who used to avg 3.5 wins/season until Butch got there.

Look, I don’t know y the guy gets all the hate he does as any reasonable Miami fan should be greatful that he’s the sole reason why we have the memories we do when we were this close to being an irrelevant program, but the hate needs to stop. He left, we get it. He left at an inopportune time, but I’m really shocked at the way many, including you my friend, have gone to rip him.

He’s not perfect, but clearly what’s going at FIU shows he still has a lot of gas in his tank.

I don't hate him, I just don't get the obsession with him. It's sad, the only reason people hang on to him is because our last glory is connected to the roster he built. Twenty years ago.

If you did this about anything else in your life you'd be told " you're living in the past or in denial".

I mean move on for god sakes , it's over.

I swear Miami fans live in the past worse than Army and Navy. It took years to finally realize the spread works and everything doesn't have to be pro style.

Every position that comes open is a former cane lol. From Mario , Dorsey, Patrick, Reed ,Butch etc. Our fans are the only ones drooling for these guys lol.

How about we hire an innovative guru for once. Not another conservative, stale hire.

That's why we couldn't be upset that we were losing to FSU, but there was no excuse for losing to ECU. Butch wasn't a good game day coach. He lost games that a good x's and o's coach wouldn't have. Butch is a great evaluator of talent and can hire the right people to develop that talent, but he's not beating you unless he has a full deck though.

One has nothing to do with the other, but i'll indulge your not-so-subtle provocation...

The program needs a new voice because there's no trust in Richt anymore; he's lost the players and what was left of the fanbase with that performance Thursday night. My statement has nothing to do with Xs or Os and more to do with player morale, recruits' perceptions, and the overall direction of the program.

With that in mind, a new OC is a half-measure if Richt is still the voice of the program. He made decisions about the make-up of his staff and has to own the results, which, IMO, aren't necessarily a reflection of HIS coaching ability.

Mario worked with Saban, knows Miami very well, and is currently crushing recruiting. He convinced what could be the number one QB in this draft to come back for his senior season, and Richt can't find one to play at QB[]__[]. Mario also landed the number recruit in the the next class. Staff make-up can change but--more importantly--the program needs a fresh start.

I can be analytical and pragmatic all at the same time. I know what I'm looking at and I think our disconnect comes from the very simplistic view of the situation on your end.
 
Butch would crawl to UM for the opportunity. Matt Campbell is 1 hot commodity and we would have to get in line.
remember when we had an AD who had a short list of guys ready to roll. Jimy did not have some great rep before we hired him good yes HOF no, Erickson same situation. need to find the up comer who makes his name at Miami
not someone like Matt C who is already a hot commodity
Can Fake James find the guy...... not a chance in ****... can not evaluate talent and is massively risk averse

I have always felt that NC made him the fall guy to protect their precious Bball team and really burned him good with NCAA
and this is part of hiring issue
however guys like Butch ruffle a lot of feathers and **** folks off.
you have to admit that FIU was the biggest dumpster fire in football but he's been to 2 straight bowls

You defended Richter Scale and slurped him for a very long time. I knew he was bunz from the get go. The same with Folden.

I have never....NEVER! slurped him up and in fact when all you no nothings were up there complaining about Diaz in ‘16 I was destroying his offensive philosophy. Now look at who was right? I’ve criticized him and this offense since 2016. I criticized in 2017 throughout the year. I even said before this season started that we’re a 7-5 team if he trots out Malik again.

Btw no you didn’t but continue lying to yourself.
