Butch brings everything we need at Miami. He knows how to make players Cane. He values our way not the candy *** crap we have now. He owns the one thing that can compete with Saban recruiting— that massive list of first round Hurricane draft picks. Butch at Miami is magic.

Saban still ain't caught Butch on 1st rounders and he gets ANYBODY he wants, Butch did that with absolutely no help and on probation and four flat tires on his car
 
The only good thing Butch would bring to this program is recruiting and player development. He would remake the roster with talented, mentally tough players (and talented coaches) but leave someone else a very good roster to finish the job. He is not going to win a national championship with that roster because he was at best a mediocre game day manager.

The only hypothetical I think about Butch being hired instead of Richt several years ago is the roster/coaches we would currently have in year 3 (and the overall program mindset) in comparison to the disaster it currently is. Otherwise, we would still have plenty of gameday issues.

Truth. Plus Saban has more classes and full counts too. Butch’s ratio of 1st round picks/number of recruits is ridiculous percentage. Nobody touches it, no even JJ.

Look at Somme the things richt says to the media. For example...." relationships are more important than championships". smh. That's ***** talk. If your coach has that simple *** attitude then it will trickle down to your players eventually one way or another.

It turns out that for decades - prior to Butch arriving - all student athletes - and regular students - had crip courses they could take to increase their GPA - again - all students could take these courses, and student athletes were able to take advantage of them as well.

Butch was hired as the football coach - he wasn't involved in the academic portion of coursework or who chose what courses were appropriate - or if the instructor was qualified to teach the courses. That was all admin - and in no way the responsibility of the football program.

UNC gets busted for providing crip courses. To avoid NCAA sanctions - they up and fire Butch - and he didn't even know what the **** they were talking about. Academic advisors worked to provide a full course load - and he logically assumed it was all legit.

So they fired Butch - and later - the AD, the President of UNC - and others stated clearly that they did Butch dirty. That they never should have fired him - as he didn't have anything to do with the decisions and practices the University put in motion decades prior.

He'd built up a pretty good team - and now of course - several were prohibited from playing some games, and others were pretty much dismissed. That year - they were expecting with great confidence to win the conference. Butch's teams just get better and better and better.

In spite of losing several players - he still managed to win his bowl game.

I know all this - as a good friend was involved at UNC and couldn't believe that they fired Butch for THEIR crap.

UM jerked him around on his contract - counting on signing day to hold his feet to the fire - and wanted the buyout all on Butch - when it's customary to halve it.

UM wouldn't budge - thinking he'd already turned down the Browns and he was stuck - but lo and behold - the Browns came back with a better offer than before.

Family first.
 
Played poker with Butch once at a Tampa Bay Bucs event, and we talked Miami football for a while. It was a while ago and things may have changed for him, but he told me, in no uncertain terms, that he wanted back at Miami. He even asked if I had connects there.

I have no idea if he feels the same way, but, imo, his passion and heart are in Miami with the Canes. If offered, I’d be more shocked if he didn’t take the gig.
 
Fantasy Land here for sure, but I think if Butch were named HC at Miami tomorrow, Schiano would be the DC in a flash. Probably would start seeing some serious staff hires.

That team lost one game....the first weekbof the season, on the road against a highly ranked Washington team, in the rain, with a RS freshman quarterback making his first start.

He didn’t **** up the 2000 team. That team deserved to play for the title. BCS computers ****ed us over.
