Listen there is no doubt Butch is the best talent elevator ever and could do great things at Miami.

Butch proved that in Miami you dont need to be a great game day coach if you can get the kids that matter and there is no other place in the world that has as many top notch D1 players as they do in the Miami area. That is without a doubt the one huge advantage that Miami has over every single other program in the world.

That's the blueprint every coach should follow and the next three coaches basically had no eye for talent whatsoever.

Butch did the same thing at UNC but without the regional advantage he could never build the depth.

I always laugh when people say Golden had 7 legit pro players last year and couldn't win. Butch would have 7 legit pro players that no one recruited and twice as many other legit pro players that people did recruit hard. Butch would have more first rounders than Golden had NFLers.

Wihtout any other considerations Butch would be the perfect fit to bring Miami back. I would be willing to deal with his vanilla Xs and Os because in Miami that can work. His depth made Miami practices the best place on earth to get better. If you wanted to start at Miami you had to walk thru a mine field every day in practice so by game time it was easy. Butch teams played mean as **** and they abused their opponents.

Butch was fired in 2011 and he has been looking for a head gig ever since he was fired. Butch would also come in on the cheap. So whats the problem? Many people on this board say nothing but two things. "Fire Golden" and "Hire Butch" But do they ever ask themselves what the problem is?

When Butch left Miami he left a lot of people ****ed off. Many of our boosters still remember that and they still hold a grudge against him.
ESPN.com: GEN - Davis' lies undo years of hard work at UM

Also while Butch was not directly linked to the NCAA scandal by the NCAA it is clear in the court of public opinion that he did nothing to avoid it.

One of their biggest faults was that UNC was not forthcoming during the investigation. The school knows more than the NCAA does. Butch was fired and Williams was not.

Former players have come out and stated that Butch did know and didn't care and one of those very same players told the media that not only did Butch know he told them that if they came to UNC for academics then they should have gone to Harvard. Butch Davis himself does not deny making that statement in fact he admits it.

Miami's administration is about as gun shy as any other administration in the country and they are **** bent on selling Miami to the world as an academic institution.

That makes Butch Davis about as unlikely as a candidate for this job as any other candidate in the world.

You are correct but are going to get negged to death. The word I have used for him is "toxic". The guy can coach, but there is a reason he doesnt even have an offer since he left UNC.

I want Butch. He can turn the program around in a heartbeat and groom some coaches to take over when he retires in the next 6 or 7 years, but I also know this admin won't go for Butch. Too much bad blood to them. It's football and people need to push their feelings aside when it comes to sports, but that is not going to happen. We can only hope we get a competent coach in there. I have confidence Al will be gone, but I don't exactly have confidence his replacement will be a great decision.

Keep slurping. We need a coach not a recruiter and Butch will never NEVER be offered the job so stfu already about Butch

Slurper bashing Butch. I'm shocked.

Didn't bash Butch. Just pointing out the obvious that there is no chance miami hires him so move on. OP was harping on recruiting over game day coaching and I say we need a coach not a recruiter. ie no strong or cristobal.

What's the ******* difference:

1. The BOT is "gun shy". Doesn't want to incur NCAA wrath because that might destroy the football program.

OR

2. The BOT has done perfectly well destroying the football program on their own.

Truth: the BOT is a bunch of aristocratic blue-nose ******** who are/were socially embarrassed by Miami's thug image. That's why they've hired safe PABLUM corches.

Of the whole bunch of possible nominees, who here thinks that any of them would want to work for these schit-brains? Butch knows what he'd be getting into, and would EXCELL at it.

butch has been waiting since he got cleared because he knows golden can't get job done and wants um. FACT

There is no doubt Butch would excel here. If users and fans really think they can influence getting Golden fired. Wouldnt their efforts be better served trying to influence getting Butch hired? Golden is doing enough of a job on his own and not sure he needs any help. In 3 games we will have a losing record.

Butch wasnt known for being a good recruiter. He was the best talent evaluator. There is a difference. Golden is a good recruiter. Butch would put together classes that did not rank well in the recruiting rankings but it was full of guys who no one else wanted yet were home run hitters all day long. Thats how you build depth. Tracy Howard would never have been on a Butch team and all these Miami dudes that no one wanted that go on and have big careers at other schools would be at Miami. I would take a 25th ranked Butch class over a top 5 Golden class any day of the week.

Also WTF is the slurper comment? How is an honest evaluation of Butch Davis a slurper comment or are you so full of dementia that you really don't know the difference anymore. I can see it now. Cops pull me over.. FN slurpers. Boss fires me... FN slurper... Wife leaves me.. FN Slurper.

Get a grip homie. There is more to this board that constantly beating the dead horse over and over again. The dude is gone and you need to get brain back in gear and try to keep the OCD at bay for the rest of your life's interactions. I lietraaly think you just walk around saying "fire golden", "fire golden", "fire golden" all day long in a beavis voice.

Until you talk to some of our former Pro Bowlers. They've said when he came and talked to them, he convinced you that he really needed you. That the team really needed you, and that with you, they would do bigger and greater things.

Thing is, Butch Davis wasn't bull********.

But the perception to the public was that he was a better talent evaluator than recruiter. That's because he was down 31 scholarships, and couldn't compete with teams able to recruit full rosters - so he had to be very, very careful in each and every selection.

This mindset is why he'd dominate here at the U. He's already learned the lessons, seen them proven, and wants in the game.

Any BOT member that questions Butch - he's got the paperwork. He was clean.

Just a scapegoat for UNC.

I have said, numerous times on this board that Butch needs a "minder", some mid level manager/assistant that keeps an eye on academics, cheating, player personnel personal problems, boosters, etc. Butch wants to coach, recruit and scheme, not be a nurse maid. The minder can be an athletic dept. assistant that can also report or at least have a strong line of communication to the admin & BOT. This might also be a bonus for other high profile sports like mens & women's basketball, baseball. This eould have to be a person who knows sports, ethics, NCAA & league rules and can communicate well at all levels from recruit to coaches. And MUST be a CANE fan. The U will always be a target and moreso if and when we climb back out of the abyss. Anticipate problems and address them with well thought out policies and proactive management so the coaches can coach.

This would also apply to any other coach we might lan, not just Butch.

The "minder" needs to keep an eye on Butch --- you said it, we will always be a target - so you DONT hire a guy that "had to be cleared" in his last job
