Butch didn't make the U

Butch built the greatest team EVER...Miami or otherwise. He did it with strict penalties. He has 11 years associated with the program. He knows Miami football. He is the best choice.

One of the dumbest things I've read on this board. Didn't save us huh, remember SI cover? 31 scholarships taken away? We were closer to death then than we are now.

And how is that any different than all the people talking on air about how Miami is bad, and blah blah blah.

Everyone has always HATED the university of Miami because it was never supposed to win. It was never supposed to be good, and when Schnelly went out and starting bringing in inner city kids all of a sudden we became a threat to the old guard. The Notre Dames, The Texas, The Alabamas, The Cornhuskers etc.

That's why those articles got written when we were hit with penalties and all the crime allegations.

It's part of being good at football. When you are on top...everybody is going to look for a reason to hate you. That's how it works.

So now people are looking to try and get in their digs when we make a change.

We had success by not trying to please everybody...and yet here is the fan base demanding they be pleased by hiring Butch Davis?

15 years after he was doing anything of relevancy coaching? G T F O.

Butch Davis has a NCAA Championship ring from when he was defensive line coach under Jimmy Johnson. He recruited a few decent guys like Jerome Brown.

Butch Davis has two Superbowl rings while serving as Defensive Coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys.

Butch Davis arrived in 1995 amid true NCAA violations and "Death Penalty" type of sanctions. The program was considered out of control and many (including our BOT) were considering shutting down the football program altogether. He struggled with gameday coaching and on finding the right assistants, but he learned quickly. By 2000 he had the right coaches, players, and ability to compete for the national title. Alas, FSU was chosen instead of Miami. Cleveland offered Butch Davis 3 times the money we did. Shalala and Paul Dee began to string him along contractually. Butch left for Cleveland the second time they called with the offer.

At Cleveland he coached them up to their first appearance to the playoffs in 25 years. He did struggle the two years after that.

Butch Davis accepted a position as the NC Head Coach. He led them to back to back bowl games, the first time in over 11 years.

Butch Davis is as old at Nick Saban. I am not sure he would be our messiah, but he's got a lot more experience than Leach, Mario, Schiano, Chud, Herman, Strong etc. He's been to Championships, won BCS bowl games, and recruited and developed lots of talent.
 
Butch was JJ's ace recruiter. The team that JJ and Butch left Erickson was off the charts talented.

A lot of Miami's success in the past 25-30 years is attributable to Butch's recruiting skills.
 
15 years? You have a serious math problem. Butch took over an awful football program at UNC in 2006, at a university that is basketball, basketball and basketball, lost in his first meeting with UM in 2006 when his inherited team went 4-8, and then proceeded to beat the Canes three consecutive games- 2007, 2008 and 2009. 15 years???????????
