BUTCH DAVIS

Butch is 64 !
Lots of baggage
Great recruiter 10 years ago
Not a great x and o guy
Need someone younger !
Go Canes

Nick Saban is 63. Bill Snyder is 76. Age is just a number. Butch has kept himself in good condition and still has all his marbles. He would be a good hire.

Funny thing is.....I agree with most of this.

Butch is 64..... FACT. He's getting old and we don't need to get into a JoPa or Flubber Neck situation. Win and win quick or GTFO.

Baggage.....I'm least concerned about this.

Great Recruiter 10 years ago......FACT, kind of. Butch has proven to be one of the best TALENT evaluators of all time. Highly doubt he loses that skill. He will no doubt bring in good talent and develop it.....but how long will it take? He proved that with his stint at UNC as well....

Not a great X and O Guys......FACT. The dude hired Larry Coker as his offensive coordinator for christ sakes. For those of you too young to remember.....Coker was a horrendous O-coordinator, just had the most talented offensive squad in the history of the game. I could have led us to an undefeated season with that talent.

How many of you were even on message boards during the Butch Davis days? I was......grassy.com and let me tell you Butch was FAR from the most popular. His gameday coaching is avg. at best and we consistently under-performed under him as well.

I won't be opposed to a Butch Davis hiring, I just know it's not like we're gonna be hiring Nick Saban or Urban Meyer here. Butch (as Franchise has pointed out) is a "Program Builder" and the turnaround will only likely occur when he has a large talent disparity with the opponent. He isn't gonna out scheme anyone.

Just trying to add a little reality to the discussion.

In Larry's defense, he did develop an offensive identity of power run and play action off of it. I was one of many back then in '97-'98 who HATED the stretch play. But there was method to the madness as we learned '99-'02. That hasn't been scene round these parts for 10+ years. BBB.

okay whats going on?

Nothing as usual. Just another Butch thread, seems they all become Butch threads around here. One would think we were getting someone on par with Saban or Meyer by the way some gush over Butch. We could do far worse, e.g. Al and company.

One time when i was six, Butch Davis visited my grade school.

9 months later, all 22 of the female teachers had to take maternity leave. They had gotten too close to Butch Davis.

20 years later, those same 22 children were the starting lineup of the 2001 Hurricanes.

Butch Davis is powerful, and dangerous, but if harnessed correctly Butch Davis creates miracles.

Sounds reasonable.
