Butch Davis wants to get back into coaching

Some of you need to let it go already. Butch Davis will not be coaching at Miami again...

Watch what you say. You will upset the children on this board. But I totally agree with you. *BUTCH WILL NEVER COACH AT MIAMI AGAIN*

Butch is not coming back to the U so let's move pass this. Even a BOT said the way Butch departed UM and his resume at UNC is a major concern and reason why he would not even be considered

Link for that comment please. I've heard the literal opposite from some BOT's. His abrupt leaving happened almost 15 years ago and the BOT is very different from then. His UNC resume is more impressive as a HC then anybody we've interviewed in the last two searches. I don't see why that would change now. To say he wouldn't even be considered for these reasons is incorrect.

I believe we still win 2001 and 2002 if Butch had stayed. Things started going down hill once Clappy lost control of the team and the Butch talent train dried up. We probably have at least 2 to 3 more titles had Butch remained.

If Butch had stayed in 2001, Chuck Pagano would've been named DC. Miami would've run roughshed over the college football world for years to come.

The time is now to bring back Davis to UM.

You're full of siht.

I hate to break it to you, but there's more than one board member. Besides, your source suks balls, and that was some made up crap.

Nothing is wrong with Butch's resume, nothing is wrong with Butch as far as the NCAA is concerned, and this is a load of contrived BS.

Put out the name of this board member or quit referring to this mystical secret person.

Oh. You can't.

Always liked Butch, learned a lot about him back in his Dallas days.
What I wonder though, is he the same guy from 95-00? Same fire, something to prove? Are we going to be here ****ed because his offense is conservative like we are about the current defense?
It's not the eye for talent but everything else.
Last gig he had at UNC he had a couple of good classes, out recruited a number of other ACC teams and had a number of guys drafted as you all know.
He was also 0-4 vs NCState, 1-3 vs Virginia (0-3 vs Groh), 1-3 vs GTech (1-2 vs PJ) and 1-3 vs VT.
Had a winning record against Miami and Duke going 7-1 though.
Yes it's premature as we're mid season but since everyone is talking Butch I thought i'd throw this out there. I have reservations about Butch now but if he's the guy eventually, I'd support him and hope his teams are exciting.
I just want someone that will allow Miami to compete for a playoff spot every year and be in the conversation.

He was also building UNC. You know, a laughing stock of the ACC. A team that wasn't much better than Duke when Duke sucked.

If Butch wanted back in, why isn't he in? Is he holding out for some cherry position? Guys who left like he left don't comeback in top 50 programs first time out.

look at butchs coaching tree. he wasnt a good game day coach but he learned. he fired people. the man was a 1st time head coach and had a worse situation than golden to deal with.

I was a huge supporter of Butch when he was here. He did an incredible job building a dynasty. The funny thing is idiotic fans flew a banner when he was coach and he was unmercifully crucified on the Grassy board back then. Sound familiar. It is funny to hear so many wanting him back when if they weren't 6 or 7 years old back in the late 90's they would have been calling for his head then.

Best thing Butch says in that interview in regards to UNC. In 2010 I expected us to win the National Championship. I don't think I will ever hear these words out of Golden's mouth.

The BOT who said that was in the herald Sports buzz blog a week or two ago, it was said. Why not bring him back as DC? If AG did that it would show that he has a huge set of nuts and confident as a M'fer. That would be ideal for me. Let Botch handle the D and recruit, Coley the offense and hire a ST coach then he could be a good CEO. Saves us the buyout, brings Davis back and we win the NC 2016. Boom!!! Lmao.

If a change is eventually made, one trustee said do not look for Butch Davis to get the job. (Former UM player Joaquin Gonzalez said Davis, now with ESPN2, “would take the job in a heartbeat.”)

The trustee said Davis not only angered people with the way he left UM for the Cleveland Browns, but there are serious concerns about his departure from North Carolina under the cloud of an academic misconduct scandal. (Davis wasn’t implicated by the NCAA.)

Butch addressed his departure in the interview. He said it was never a money issue but a contract language issue. Now I bet the BOT or whoever was negotiating for UM didn't think he would leave so they essentially low-balled him with ridiculous language. With the way the program has nose dived, there's plenty of egg on some faces.
Butch also said that there have been around nine investigations and his name has not shown up yet. TIFWIW.

Wait so one trustee said Gorlden is corch. The next trustee said Gorlden is not corch. The 3rd trustee said Butch made everyone mad when he left.

Kinda sounds like what UM has become. Schit show.

And the fans were right about flying banners for Coker and Shannon. What's your point? Butch actually trended up as a coach and didn't bull**** and lie to the fans about the defense and his staff. He went 5-6 with a roster of 54 or less scholarship players while Golden is sitting at an ugly 4-3 with a roster of studs being misused by a largely inept coaching staff. The 2014 team's talent is better than 4 of the 6 teams Butch had while here and yet Golden is sitting pretty at a likely 6-6 record.

The two situations are hardly similar. Butch's team improved from a talent, coaching, and all around developmental standpoint while Golden's are increasing with talent and decreasing in everything else. Improvement as a team against solid competition was evident, in spite of his occasional missteps like ECU. But if you can tell me that Golden has this team improving to the caliber of an elite team, you are blind.

As far as the fans calling for Butch's head, that's when we were at our worst and expected national championships when he only had 50 real players to work with. Butch never tried to run off to another school and he went to the NFL like all our good coaches do and we don't exactly crucify Jimmy and Dennis for it. The only knock on Butch in that scenario is that he left it late in the game after saying he wouldn't leave. He left us the greatest roster in college history and a halfway decent hire would have kept the train chugging along smoothly.

Bottom line, for all the Miami specifics surrounding the job, I see hiring Butch as a hire that would make us dominant again. I don't see Golden ever getting us to that plateau.

Repost:

At some point, this issue of who was honest with whom needs to be put away with all the other emotional baggage and children's toys.

Texas President was backing Mack...until he wasn't. PSU supported JoePa...until they weren't. OSU fully supported Tressel...untl they werent. FSU and Bowden. Bama and Shula. Michigan and Rich Rod. UCLA and Neuheisel. WV and Stewart. UM and Coker/Shannon.

Don't kid yourselves. Its business.

Administrations engage in the same sort of phuckery coaches do. It may be a family in the locker room but the hugs end at the door.

If UM is serious about competing and winning at the highest levels, they will have already reached out to the agents of some candidates.

Butch should be at the top of that list.
