Butch was an awesome recruiter and decent coach. Yes, he helped assemble the greatest team of all time. But it wasn't just Butch you idiots. It was the entire staff and it was the players who coached themselves to a National title. Every time I hear Butch's team I laugh. You guys thinking of starting a Gofundme for David Blatt any time soon so he can get his ring too?

Now two decades later after being owned by the NFL and NCAA he is coaching at some trash mid major school. Said school whose greatest claim to fame is TY Hilton or getting their *** kicked by us, both literally and figuratively, in the OB stadium.

Every time we play a team coached by Butch we see threads pop up right and left. Usually, unintelligible threads who pump this guy up like he is the Sultan of Swat when, in fact, he is currently the Sultan of Jack Squat. The dude moved on for money. I can't blame him but now he wants to come back and you all buy in that he is this football god. Let me ask you - why is he coaching at FIU and not some other school that has a shot at winning something of relevance?

Many here would have you believe if the AD would have hired the guy, who threw us to the side and then had major NCAA issues, we would be so much better off. The problem is there is no evidence to support this homer claim within the last 15 years. Of course he wanted the job. He couldn't find a better job anywhere else. You think he really deserved it? Do you really think we should have chanced it on a guy who helped orchestrate a vacation of 16 wins while he coached UNC? He is a road apple at this point. He is worse than a Les Miles or Mack Brown. He can't beat Kiffin who has made him his daddy. So just stop praising this guy.

The problem is we haven't had better since he left. It is sad but it is less of a reflection of Butch and more of a reflection of our ineptitude. Last I checked you don't see LSU clamoring about bringing back Nick Saban. A coach who is 10x better than your boy - the Almighty Butch Davis.

Praise is fine. Blind ignorance is another. The line is always broken here. The past is the past. We understand where we came from. The problem is you have to evolve. Live in the past and your are no better than the Blake James or any other idiot that has run our AD into the ground.

Did he not have a staff? Did they not recruit too, or was it just Butch? Did Butch coach every position and call every play?

I imagine you'll credit him with picking the staff, and that's fair, but OP has a point. You guys tend to just think adding Butch to the mix makes everything great. It's amazing that nobody's ever had an answer to why he never got another good college job. Why don't people from any solid program think he's the answer to their troubles? You'll say he did great things at Miami and was on his way at UNC before being unfairly pushed out. Why didn't anyone give him another chance? God knows Kiffin got plenty of chances.
 
Don't laugh at Clappy. He was smart enough to direct the train and win quite a few ballgames. Could obviously argue he won two NC. Butch was never a sideline guru and only wonder if he would have done as well.
Unlike most bad coaches, Clappy had the sense to get tf out of the way and let those killers kill.

Butch hired that staff...so in my opinion...he gets 100% of the credit...not to mention who closed for JJ from 84-88....

Not one F-ing time have you ever heard me say I want Butch now....Never have....But from 01-14 he most certainly would've been the correct choice....

He was offered by other schools...did not want to leave Fl....especially South Fl....he's content in his life....Multi-Millionaire with several rental properties...When you walk around with 2 SB Rings...a NC Ring...and your the Architect of the Greatest Collection of talent in NCAA History, whats the worries??...Lol.....

Don't tell me who I should have for friends...Lol...24yrs and you honestly think my friendship with Butch means I'm not 100% Cane??...Lol...If you were 1/10th the Cane I am, and have been for 45yrs, you'd be doing well....believe that....

I swear Butch would have somehow blundered his way into a loss or 2 in 2001 and 02, then proceed to beat the crap out of whoever we'd have faced in the Consolation Bowl.
