Butch Davis Question

Every HS coach in South Florida recently did guest spots on Bugs Bunny and got hit on the head with anvils and caught amnesia.

You're overthinking it. Butch Davis is Butch Davis. The coaches know who he is. Even if they are not all the same from when he was at UNC, his relationship with them from the beginning would be greater than Allie Golden could ever dream of.

I'm thinking about if he comes in January or February, will he be able to call up his old buddies at Miami Central and Booker T, or will he be starting from scratch? How many of the old coaches from 2000 are still around?

Butch Davis is a local legend.

That wouldn't mean **** in any other market. But there are currently 36 NFL players from Dade and Broward. The next highest from any locale is like 14.

The talent discrepancy is immense, and being a local legend makes all the difference in this one very unique instance.

I believe that. If he comes in a couple weeks before signing day, though, personal relationships with high school coaches will go a long way.

I think it would make a positive difference to keeping the '16 class together if Butch knew some of these coaches personally. I don't think reputation alone will do it, not in two weeks.

Believe it. Two weeks is plenty of time. (I hope he is here much sooner) These kids today flip in the final hour and Butch closes.

Don't bank on that. 2 weeks is nada in recruiting.

James is a complete moron. Not only has he and the BOT allowed this comedy to continue wayyyy too long to not affect 2016 recruits when he finally pulls the trigger....but now we have more and more competition for head coaches next year in USCe, USCw, UCF, Maryland, maybe UGA, maybe UT, etc.

Butch is the clear cut answer, but in this day and age of pay outs and egos, he needs more than a month to try and salvage this class. He would do better than anybody else on name recognition and past relationships alone, but we need to give him more time than that AFTER becoming intelligent enough to offer him in the first place.

There is no coach that UM would be willing to pay that would have the instant credibility Butch has with current commits and potential recruits. Recruiting is one of the strongest arguments for Butch Davis.

Posters suggest Fuente and Herman who are good - and potentially - great coaches. But they would not have the immediate cache Butch has, given his record. While those coaches might be able to retain and pull many studs, we would undoubtedly miss on guys Butch will be able to hold onto.

And more importantly, no one is better than Butch at identifying talent and developing it. So even if he missed on a few guys, he would find comparable replacements that he would develop into studs.

It's utter incompetence if we wait around and lose Butch to one of these other schools. I would imagine USC-E will target him. He'd be a perfect fit there. And what a disaster for us it would be, given that all signs indicate that he wants to come back to UM.

I suspect that part of the problem is that there isn't a consensus on the Board about a replacement. The pro and anti-Butch folks who have the decision making power and the F**k You Money can't come to an agreement. This maybe a Fain vs. Miller issue, with each billionaire leading a faction.

I think the decision about Golden has already been made.

So the knock on Butch is he won't salvage the 2016 recruiting class in 4 weeks?

Ok, so name someone that will.

And even if it's true, which it's not, do we gamble with the next 5 years just to keep 10 teenagers? Name one recruit that's more important then the direction of the program.

And Butch was known to get a few "decent" players after signing day - Edge, Shockey and McKinnie come to mind...

Turns 64 at halftime of the Clemson game...He's to old and damaged for the BOT to give serious consideration...Blood still oozing for Butch from the first time around..
