SHEEED, Cutcliff wins at a basketball school, he even won the Coastal. Does that mean Cutcliff > Butch?
What DC has done at Duke is amazing...consistently winning football games at (arguably) the country's biggest basketball powerhouse school is amazing. No doubt. I don't know who would be better here, DC or Butch. If someone says they know, they're lying. But I do know we'd be very lucky to have either instead of Goldy.
For the most part, big time NCAA schools are either football strong or b-ball strong. Not both. It makes what guys like JL and Donavan (in basketball have done) and guys like what Butch and Cutcliff (in football) even more impressive. To win consistently in the 'other sport'...Duke football, or put many 1st round picks in the NFL like UNC football did, win big time champ. games (Billy while he was at uf basketball) is a testament to the coaches.
Explain why you think it is so difficult to win in multiple sports at the same time?
We won in Baseball & Football, Michigan State is constantly good in basketball & Football, Ohio State was good in basketball & Football, Notre Dame, Arizona, UCLA, Florida, Louisville, and the list goes on and on.
I'm a big baseball fan...but take that sport out of the equation. It's relavence to big time NCAA sports is nil. (MiLB dominates the semi-pro baseball scene)
But to your question, ND/AZ/UCLA/uf/UL are good in both sports? Like consistatly winning and putting many many 1st rounders (in NFL or NBA) in their sports? Really? How good is Louisville in football? I mean really? (and beating Miami doesn't count). They're good, not great. UCLA. Are they great at either sport these days? Decent...mid to upper level in the PAC 12, but not dominating. Are they? ND? Are they churning out 1st rounders (in either sport) and dominating. (Again, beating UM doesn't count.)
MSU and O$U are good examples to your point. Coaching all around those schools is elite...no doubt.
But, I still maintain, schools that dominate (In football I guess I would mean winning and/or playing for your conference's champ. game 1 out of 2 yrs. on average and winning 10-11 +- games per season & Regularly put players in NFL via 1st/2nd rd. In basketball I would clarify by meaning 25 -26 reg. season wins/regular Elite 8 + tourney trips, Conf. Champ. Tourney appearances and wins and regularly putting players in the NBA in the 1st. rd...not 2nd) are far fewer than those that do.
Putting 1st rounders in the NFL is not really a measurement to a successful program on it's own. No good putting players in the NFL if you are not winning, see last year.
To answer the question, and not necessarily about this year: But to your question, ND/AZ/UCLA/uf/UL are good in both sports?
