Take a team, clone it and give them both identical coaching staffs on a neutral field. Make Butch the HC of one team and Diaz the other HC. Diaz's team wins by multiple scores.

If Diaz and Butch put together their own teams and had the same coordinator call the games Butch wins by multiple scores.

And thanks for reminding about the incomparable stupidity of third down screens. Forever hilarious. I was so empty without that simpleton sig. Today the Bills' coach McDermott actually called time out on 3rd and 8 when the Dolphins had a bunched formation right...3 receivers and only 2 defenders. But that's plenty to stop a moronic 3rd down screen. You have to be a rank moron to be scared of a 3rd down screen. The play unfolded and was wiped out well before the first down marker, even without sufficient defenders. But due to the time out the play didn't count and the Dolphins got an undeserved second chance. This time they threw beyond the marker and were rewarded with the first down.

Now I can start laughing again.

I remember Neiuhiesel telling the sideline reporter at half that he couldnt believe how his obvious, pop warner show man defense that dropped into zone had psyched out our playcalling, and that we were just giving the game away. Botch's idiocy in the second half, all those failed 2 pt trys, was the difference in the game.

The guy is a great recruiter, talent evaluator, but a clown as a game day coach, and HE should have seen Coker for what he was long before Coker got the HC job. (Coker was an awful OC for us under )

But "BS"? Do you remember the Botch years? I'll bet the farm we had the record or near it for too many men on the field penalties, and delay of game flags, during his tenure. Did you see the '99 PSU game? The EC game? The Cuse game?

The Butch sideline looked like Tokyo in a Kaiju movie. Just chaos and panic.

Yeah, I remember the Butch years. I remember the day they announced Schnellenberger and got excited - and of course I recall.

I also recall the Sports Illustrated. The calls to terminate UM football. I remember the program just tanked - almost impossible to get any recruits to even look at UM. I recall how short we were thanks to sanctions - and read how we (Butch) didn't even have enough players to scrimmage at one point.

Then Butch and crew started climbing out of the abyss. Hard part was over. Program turned around - and they guy who brought everyone through all that crap - the hard crap - well, he's the one that got cheated by the computers to play in the NC game in 2000, got screwed on his contract and that team Butch put together won the NC in 2001, and due entirely to a outright theft - Butch's team would have won the 2002 NC.

Yeah, I remember every coach's ***** up and successes. JJ didn't have any excuses, nor did Erickson, nor did Clappy. They were handed championship teams.

So no, I really don't want to hear some pups lamenting Butch Davis - just because he left for money - just like Schellenberger, just like JJ, and not nearly as bad as Erickson left the program with.

I saw panic and chaos in the mid seventies - forward. It comes, like seasons, and eventually it goes away.

But it followed him. remember his meltdown in the playoffs with Cleveland? Looked JUST like the Canes PSU game.

I am just offput by his gameday coaching. Then again, I always had a feeling that Fester, as OC, was a major source of the sideline meltdowns. That PSU game, the 2000 UW game, or the 2nd half of the 2000 FSU game, are classic Coker (choking playcalling, delay of games after Time Outs, etc)

One thing is for sure, NOBODY else thought too much of him. One brief stint at UNC that ended in a circus, and nobody but Canes fans wanting him.

The NFL saw the complete opposite from you. They only hire the very best of college coaches, especially game coaching, since there is no recruiting. One of the two of you is wrong.

Oh, nfl usually sucks at plucking coaches out of colleges. The bad franchises are bad at everything, including picking coaches. Saban is classic example. Fins gave him the store and he sucked. Nick is smart enough to know he sucked and ran home to mommy.

Butch is greatest talent picker out of high school ever and made great players of them but game day coach he was not. Dude could see the wok of art inside the block of marble like nobody else. I would have gladly suffered 3 or 4 years of bad game days for the 30 1st round draft picks and back to back N.C. that would have followed.

For those knocking his gameday, remember this was his very first head coaching job. To compare you would have to look at others at their first job, all of our other coaches had been head coaches way before they got here, is it not possible he could have learned and got better ? I would sure as **** think that he was better on gameday 2016 than he was 2000. We know he got screwed his last year here, should have played for NC. He did apply a beatdown on the turds in the sugar. Can you honestly say had he stayed he would not have won a title, really ? MR was at UGA for how many years ? and how many did he win ?

Question: who was more important, or deserves more credit for our last championship? Butch or Coker?

UNC

Before Butch:
2002: 3-9
2003: 2-10
2004: 6-6
2005: 5-6
2006: 3-9

Butch Years:
2007: 4-8 (He beat us)
2008: 8-5 (He beat us)
2009: 8-5 (He beat us)
2010: 8-5

2010: He was set up to make his run before the investigations started with 13 players suspended for the opening game along some missing part or all the games that season. From this team, 12 were invited to the NFL combine (most in the country) and 9 players were drafted.

At Miami, it took Butch until his 6th season to achieve top level success and that was because he started off with heavy sanctions. At UNC, he was on pace to achieve it in year 4.
