Butch Davis and Manny…

I can't disagree with most of what OP says, I will, however, state that Butch is worthy of another shot. He is older for sure, but Butch at Miami was magic both time and maybe he can pull it off again. Even taking off my Butch blinders, fact is that the Miami administrator has proven that it will never hire another coach good enough to bring back our glory -- they want to avoid that very thing at any cost. Since we will be stuck with never ending procession of easy choice losers, why not get Butch. If you can convince the administration he is a loser, then they might just make a mistake and hire the man.
As a middle aged person I know that Chicks you ****ed 20 years ago ain’t as good 20 years later. Don’t confuse nostalgia with reality.

Manny is gonna learn a new personality by hanging around Butch?
No, but management isn't 100% based on personality. He can still be the nice guy if he's got a strong OC and DC who can bust heads when needed. You don't have to be a complete hardass, you just have to be tough when needed. That can be learned.

Managing 100+ college-aged athletes is, in a big way, about personality.

They have to respect you.

If Manny had decent position coaches, that would be an improvement.

But he doesn’t want to hire established position coaches....because he tried it at Texas and he learned thay only his “yes men” GA’s like Patke will respect him.

Seeing a pattern yet?

Where did this new nonsense about Manny being a nice guy come from? Hes ripped the defense on the sidelines several times this season. That's only what camera caught?

Beats me, it's @RightSaidFred 's argument. I'm just saying being nice by nature isn't a permanent disqualification from being a good manager.

Miami has to find an up and coming guy because he will be less expensive. Like Stoops turning it over to Lincoln Riley.

... Oklahoma was in tremendous shape for Riley; like what Miami would've been had Butch never left and turned the keys over to a guy like Diaz.

Is Lincoln Riley really some next-level up-and-comer? Doubt it. Put that kid at a lower tier Big XII school and what is he really doing.

All that Matt Campbell and Iowa State hype a few years back; 8-5 last year, 2-1 to start this season—falling to rival Iowa with some sloppy play and needing triple overtime to beat Northern Iowa.

Riley's success is less about anything he's done and more about what type of program Stoops built and maintained at Oklahoma. Compare his resume to Manny's; not much different—two years as OU's offensive coordinator before getting the gig. East Carolina OC for four years before that and Texas Tech's wide receiver's coach prior-to.

Give Manny the OU gig with those resources and state of that program and stick Lincoln in Miami and I doubt you'll see much difference between the two.

I'm way passed middle age and do agree. However, some are so good 20 years ago that latter can still play the game. I only wish I could say the same for myself.

If Butch is only 30% of what he was, how many 1st round pick would we have in 4 years? He averaged about 3 a year as HC(much more at Miami), so 30% of 12 = 3.6. So lets say 4 total? How many have we had the last 10 years? I think it is about 4. Would be nice to have them on the same team. I suspect that old man Butch would score a few more than 4 if he had THE U as his backdrop. Would you think 8(two a year) unreasonable? Nothing like a 22 year old hottie he once was putting 4 out every year and 5 a couple plus a 6 pack another, but I'll take 8 on a team. Might not be enough to get though Bama and Clemson but it would scare the **** out of them and maybe take down one. I can live with that.

I dont know guys, it just makes no sense to me to hire a coach at a big time program thats never coached before, had he gone to Temple a couple years and done well yea maybe so. That aside i think he could do well here if he learns to adjust on the fly, run off who aint gettin it done and hire someone who will get it done. You dont have the luxury of time at this level, somn Al Golden never got, one year should be enough for Manny to tell whether or not an OC or DC can get his dogs to hunt.

30% of zero national titles is still zero.

I hear that but we only won 1 without his players. I have no problem firing him after 4 or 5 recruiting classes. I want his recruiting and player development. Now, if you get young Howard ready, I am all in. Anyone one who can have Kelly, Bernie and Vinny on the same team is good with me.

We should have went after Mark Stoops....I bet Kentucky would lay the wood to us right now with lesser talent.
