Correct, which was kinda my point. Neither coach won big without talent and/or restrictions. But I disagree that Butch wasn't assembling 1st rounders, Butch was putting together a monster at UNC until Marvin Austin went to runnin' His mouth.

Once again your Butch hate is blinding you. I'm not saying he's Saban but put things in perspective for once. Butch was cheated in 2000 and everyone knows teams progress and play best toward the end of the season, this why we have a playoff now and Butch 100% would've made them and won the title. He's also the reason we won the following year and played for it the next. The results as his players and culture left Coral Gables speak for themselves. I'm happy with Richt but you are the biggest Butch hater on the planet and will follow my post with pointing out losses he had rebuilding a team with death penalty type sanctions. Stay shook.

Loved Butch’s teams. But I’d take Saban’s 5 Championships over Butch’s goose egg. I’d also take the ten year run Bama is on rather than leaving after one good season and having the whole dynasty crumble within three years.

This is where Butch screwed himself and us legacy wise. Had he stayed, people who be saying Nick or Saban who? Butch hadn't even signed his best classes yet. Think about how insane that is with the run in the NFL his recruits had. I sometimes wonder if he would have stayed had he gotten a taste of things with the championship we were screwed out of in 2000. Oh well it is what it is.

Saban takes a bought and paid for 5* and just plugs him in to the next guy's spot. Butch took unranked kids or kids in totally different positions and made them beasts. I would take Butch 2000 over any Saban year. His coaching tree would be pretty **** impressive as well with more time.

Not Butch's fault the amateur administration at UM was negotiating His contract raise & extension in bad faith.

Butch made the grand mistake of fleeing to the NFL. Otherwise, he probably would have at least THREE national championship rings. Maybe more if continued coaching the Canes until 2010 and beyond. dUh.

Also, didn't Saban leave for the NFL. Didn't seem to hurt him and his ACTUAL accomplishments.

sabag got his **** pushed in at the nfl level where it's an even playing field

silly as it may sound, give me butch all day. That mans eye for talent and ability to assemble a staff are simply unreal. He's already proven what he can do once the sanctions are lifted. I would gladly take a risk to see it again

To be fair about Saban’s NFL record, he went 9-7 and the 6-10 with Cleo Lemon as his QB. That’s not terrible.

*** Sabin...i'd take Davis over him and had Davis stayed at Miami you would have seen a dynasty like none other.
