"Butch can't carry Saban's jockstrap"?

Saban is the best coach in college football in the last 30 years and will be regarded as one of the greatest college football coaches of all time.
so it is completely unfair to compare Saban to Butch or Saban to any other current coach including meyer he is head and shoulders above everyone

10 years after his retirement, there'll be a book pointing out how Satan was the most successful cheating corch in history.

Neither had great NFL careers although you can make the case that Butch coached the worst of the two franchises and actually led them to their only playoff appearance. Nick is a great coach. Having said that, a coach that can't succeed at Alabama, that's reflection on the coach not the program. Butch was at UNC. He has to rebuild it from scratch and was on his way to probably winning the ACC had the scandal not broken.

Saban also inherited a winless MSU team. Don't leave that out.

Do I think Butch is a good coach? Of course. But he's not on the same level as Saban. Doesn't mean Butch is trash, just that Saban has shown he's better over the years.

I'll take Butch over just about any other coach, btw.

Saban is not one of them though.

Ah, no he didn't. Perles finished 5-6. MSU had to vacate their wins that year. MSU went on probation. I believe they lost 7 scholarship total.

You're right. I lazily went back and just looked at MSU's record prior to Saban, completely forgot. I think they went 6-6 though.

Now compare them after that period.

Not a problem. Saban arrives at a SEC school with long history of buying recruits in a talent rich state famous for food and corruption. Ole Nick had found his home. Wins NC.

Nick make mistake to go the NFL where the "recruiting" are actually limited and cannot be used on everyone coming into eligibility. Nick finds out life within rules is not for him. Runs back to crime-ridden SEC where rules are not a problem. This time he goes to the mother lode of cash payments Bama. Nick flourishes once again in the biggest house in his homeland. Wins 3 NCs and runs the second biggest cheater out of town. Unfortunately of Ole St Nick, said cheater found a even nicer home where the whole conference just gets out of the way the mighty OSU. Urban then rains or Nick's parade.

Nick, no longer able to be the biggest cheater, runs back to NFL to coach Andrew Luck. Hoping to do better this time. Oh wait, that's tomorrows news.

Hey Nick is a good coach, but he must cheat to win. Period.

Since Nick left MSU, he has won 4 NCs. Nothing close to the same.

In fact, you never compared them at all in your post.

I'm sorry, it was implied "without the illegal purchase of recruits at school under the protection of the NCAA and ESPN, Nick has not done crap." That clear enough. Is he a good coach, yeap. But since Miami cannot buy recruits like he is use to, and Butch has proved over and over again that he can out recruit the whole world at Miami, I'll take Butch here. If you are talking about Bama. LSU, OSU or one of the other protected schools, then Nick is the man. BUT a Butch recruited team at Miami will beat the crap out of Nick's team from anywhere. His defenses are slow and require constant guidance from the sideline -- that is their problem with uptempo teams. On the other hand, our old defenses could stay in base and take what came -- lbs did not need to be taken out they could cover or play run.

What Butch has done anyplace other than Miami doesn't mean crap. It is what he will do here that matters. I am not a Butch lover, I am an NC loving Cane. Butch is our best chance to get another one. Nick would be a slightly more successful Golden here -- we could never get away with his recruiting or his chemical enhancements to players.

So Butch hiring that bag man at UNC doesn't count as buying recruits?

Lol at your whole post

would be interesting to see saban in miami. i think Emmert's head would explode. on one side saban is his boy but on the other he hates miami.

Can OP get three infractions for this thread? I find this more offensive than any personal insult I've read on this site.

This has gotten to Tebow levels of delusion.

Saban has 4 rings as HC. Butch has none. It's not disparaging Butch to say what is true. Everything around Butch seems to be "what if's" instead of "what is"

Now compare them after that period.

i know people won't agree with me, but saban may be one of the most overrate coaches of all time. if you really knew the amount of infractions that school has been committing and the absurd amount of money the school spends on the program. same thing happend at LSU while mark emmert was saban's AD. notice how bama pulled in a #1 class prior to winning any of the 3 titles. find out about the lengths that school goes to violate rules to get those #1 classes. and then think about how regardless of how much that program cheats and doesn't even bother to hide it, it is ignored by the NCAA who is run by Saban's golfing buddy. Saban purely as a coach is him at Michigan state. watch a bama game. they run pretty basic plays. sometimes the game planning even keeps bad teams in games with them. but it doesn't matter when you have 5 star after 5 star of which most of them are also probably on PEDs. if you've followed bama since saban's tenure, you'd know that they have really become insanely dominate following Mark Emmert becoming president of the NCAA. that's no coincidence.

^^^ This! These kids at Bama are driving luxury cars; cars that I may never be in and I have a great job. Yet, these kids, many of whom come from less then ideal financial circumstances, are somehow driving around in them....w/ no jobs? Yet, the NCAA continually turns a blind eye to it!

$EC "elite" programs have dirt under them....that's a FACT. I mentioned this b4 a couple of years ago, but my little cousin was the No. 2 player in the state of Mississippi. The lil ******* wind up committing to Auburn (although I tried my darnest to get him to consider Miami). Why? Well, four weeks later, dude was driving a brand new Acura Integra fully loaded. My unc and aunt didn't get that for him. He didn't have a job...but mysteriously, he came up w a $30k car.

Nick Saban is the benefactor of dirty play...period.

Huh, what about UNC and Butch and Blake and the NCAA.

Please stop.

Do ppl think Miami has never paid players or ever been in trouble with the NCAA? Or their players ever used roids?
Are ppl really this ******* stupid?
If you really think Saban couldn't do at Miami what he did at LSU or Bama then you're a ******* moron.

Saban >Butch=facts not speculation

Mods closest this ******* idiotic thread.

Yeah?

What Saban inherited:

"In 1996, the NCAA accepted MSU's self-imposed sanctions and added additional penalties, including the loss of six football scholarships for 1996. While the NCAA found there was "lack of institutional control" within the football program during Perles' tenure, it cleared him of wrongdoing."

What Saban did with only 6 lost schollies, and no bowl bans from 95'-99':

6-5-1
6-6
7-5
6-6
9-2
Never won the B10.
0-3 in bowl games.

What Butch inherited:

"Not long after Davis' arrival, the Hurricanes were found to have committed several violations of NCAA rules during the tenure of his predecessor, Dennis Erickson. As a result, the Hurricanes were barred from postseason play in his first year (despite an 8–3 record) and lost 31 football scholarship spots over several years.

What Butch did with 31 lost schollies and a bowl ban from 95'-00'.:

8-3
9-3
5-6
9-3
9-4
11-1
Tied or outright won the BE 3 times.
4-0 in bowl games.

Buh buh, "Butch can't carry Saban's jock strap"?...yeah?...fuh' real?

its a tough comparison because UM had a much better football pedigree at the time but what he inherited was a nightmare.

Butch is a good coach and would likely kill it here, but there is no way in **** that if given the choice he should be preferred over Saban.

OP is delusional

Butch took over the Big East champs that had just played in the OB against the #1 team in the country and lost by 7.
