Butch as a gameday coach

Everyone is torturing themselves with this Butch pipe dream. He was an amazing talent evaluator. Forget the team he put together at Miami, he took a bunch of nobody's at unc and churned out top nfl draft picks.

Here is why Butch is never coming back:
1. He is old
2. He was the head coach at a university during a major academic scandal - career suicide
3. He lied about being interested in the browns job. Would the dolphins take Saban back?
4. Al is signed through 2019

Butch is the same age as Saban, and no one is suggesting he's too old to coach. There are some benefits that come with experience and reflection.

Everyone knows he was sacrificed by UNC as a gesture to the NCAA that they were taking steps - never mind that the NCAA and UNC concluded after the investigation that Butch was cleared of any knowledge or wrongdoing.

Al also has a buyout agreement - whatever it is, it's not full salary until 2019, I guarantee. Besides, Shalala takes great pride in her ability to raise $50,000,000 at a time. Golden's buyout is a piece of cake.

With him. Or against him.

I thought Butch became a much better game day coach at UNC but he had experience here and at Cleveland, then was out of the game a year(?). That's a huge difference from a first time head coach dealing with a roster full of holes and scholarship limitations. He would kill it here and we would be elite within 2 years. Every assistant worth their salt would be beating down our doors because of his proven track record of those who coached under him.

Does anyone think we wouldn't have won in 2001 if Butch was coaching? Likewise, anyone think Butch would have won in 2002 had he stayed?
He lost 1 game in 2000. He was not a million miles away. Should have played OU instead of FSU, who we dismantled

Butch Davis put together the greatest collection of talent in the history of amateur football.

Thus making everything else a moot ******* point.

This post is so ******* ignorant. Go swab your urethra.

And most wanted him fired because he couldn't beat Va Tech and FSU until his final year. The meltdown against ECU when they didn't have a home stadium. Looking unprepared for 3 quarters against Washington. 66-13 against Syracuse. Plenty of black marks on his Miami resume.

Every coach has a bad game. That doesn't mean jack. So what is Syracuse blew him out 16 years ago?

Too old? The guy is 62 . He can do this. We can do this. I sincerely think that this is best possible move to make. He wants to come back and we need him. Lets say this is Golden's last year as it should be. We are not in a position to make a risky hire. With Davis we know exactly what we are getting. A great talent evaluator who know how to hire a great staff and how to develop players.

People talk about baggage. Well he was cleared of any and all wrongdoing by the NCAA. Also after 14 years I doubt anyone really cares about the Cleveland situation. Look at it this way. We need to be resurrected and Butch wants to do it. He wants to prove something. The fire still burns. This could be his last hurrah before he calls it a career and rides off. Think of it as his opportunity to go out with a bang and redeem himself at the same time. If he comes back and wins a national title, I'm sure all would be forgiven. Imagine the buzz his hiring would generate. It would be just the thing to re energize the alumni and fan base.

Butch was a 1st time coach but he also fired people. he was learning his first couple years. Golden has actually run a program prior. in his defense though, he lost McDonald, Richardson, and Fisch.

Pros: Assembled the nastiest college football team

Cons: He always frustrated me by calling off the dogs way too early...even when we were up by just 7 points. We always ended up in a dog fight when we could have absolutely destroyed our competition. I want a coach to RUTS

Best evaluator/developer of talent in the history of the game. A below average gameday coach. Often flat out choked and was very conservative.
