Did you happen to notice the team he left behind? There were a couple 1st round draft picks ... at just about every position. I think it was his recruits 1 st round picks that Saban was chasing and failed to match for a few years. FSU, in its ENTIRE existence has something like 42 1st round picks. Butch has 29 by himself. Bobby's 30 something years and now Jimbo, with all those great recruiting classes for close to 40 years = 42 1st round picks / Little ole Butch Davis = 29. Hum, do you think any of us care that you think Butch didn't do great against Bobby and VT? We don't. Great cooks make a mess in the kitchen. Non-cooks don't. What do you want on the table at dinner: 1) complete 7 course fantastic meal or 2) empty clean plates?

FSU was an evenly talented team. Vick was injured but it wouldn't have made a difference. The OB was rocking with everyone screaming for VT to "Put Vick In." We were winning that game no matter what.
And the record is totally taken out of context. Like there wasn't severe sanctions due to the Pell Grant scandal.

So basically he didn't do the one thing every single person has faulted all of the last three coaches for. That's not winning a game against marquee competition even when they weren't favored. UCLA is the only big and unexpected win of his career here. His next stop at UNC, he had a lot of bad losses and continued his trend of losses to his schools arch rival NC State.
