But, what if TVD really DOES use this opportunity...?

Not to be overly dramatic about it, and this is the kind of statement that will get me killed on CIS, but with the occasional WR who does his own work outside of Greentree, you can track our WR fundamentals erode as soon as Butch left. By 2003, you could really see it and then it's just not been solid ever since. Doesn't seem like rocket surgery. Seems correctable, but what do I know...?
Our wide receivers have looked different under ever coach and usually when it comes to sports players take on the personality of their coach unless there too far gone.. so i think if we get the best coach for those young men they can be saved

I expect a 4-8 or at best a 6-6 season and it has nothing to do with TVD. The offensive scheme is for cr@p and as long as it stays the same it will remain cr@p. My only hope is we can dominate the running game and have a good defense for us to see a big improvement. You can have Jerry Rice and Randy Moss out there and we will still a repeat of the same boring offense that does not throw the ball deep or 10-15 yards plus. Also can't forget the slow a55 tempo that gives the defense plenty of time to make subs and adjust to what the offense has on the field.

With an improved oline
Tvd will have more efficient stats but I doubt he puts up big numbers
That’s not what Mario does
With a better oline
You’ll see us run the ball more
Look at Herbert
Thst was a pretty good oline that year too

My concern with Colbie, X, Ladson, Arroyo, George - zero explosion or deep threat here. No speed to take the top off a defense or a WR screen 70 yards by making a guy or two miss.

Said it all last year - this offense (regardless of OC/playcalling) desperately and i mean desperately needs a Jeff Thomas, Stacy Coley, Travis Benjamin type. Not even AR15. Just someone with speed/wiggle.
We have speed and wiggle coming with Robbie, Ray Ray and CJ Jr. Our issue is that we don’t have an AR15. We don’t have a WR1 that when we need a play lined up against the other team’s best corner against press coverage will go out and make the play. We had that with Rambo in 21 and he wasn’t even that good. It makes a world of difference. It changes your entire offense and opens up opportunities for others.

I will say, based on Ray Ray’s skill set, he isn’t your prototype as a WR1 but he can be a weapon that we can build around. Not ideal but if used the right way, a game breaker.

Robby Washington and Nathaniel Joseph can both take the top off a defense. Robby has that dog in him and enough height at 5’ 10 to be an quality outside receiver.

Wtf is AR15?

It's so stupid that we cant recruit any speed at the WR position. I'll even take some straight line speed guys. Can we start recruiting in Jamaica and the Bahamas?

With the OL that Mario is building and putting in front of TVD, what kind of year could he have if he really applies himself and puts in the extra time with Colbie, X, Ladson, Aroyo and George?

I know, I know, we don't have an OC worth a spit. But, what if he has time to throw and the guys he's throwing to have their timing down with him?

I know I'm only supposed to expect the worst on CIS or I'm a sucker, but seriously, what if TVD applies himself and doesn't get injured? 2023' could be that next step that Mario always takes in his 2nd season.

OK, let it fly...
Gattis not here with a lashlee oc scheme and he’s a first round pick imo in next years draft

Overall the ol becoming significantly better will only give him more time and establish the run game for play action.

We have the talent at te, slot and two rbs that can really catch that he should put up big numbers regardless who is oc next year. Our ol is the best in acc with the 2 deep solid

We’re just going to eliminate the receiver position and play with 9 linemen, a qb and a running back

Looks like what Mario and Gattis have in mind.

'Course, opponents will load up and have a field day . . . one-dimensional teams are easy.

Based on 2023 roster with the portal adds
2023 season
Miami Ohio - W lay up
Temple - W lay up
GT - W
Virginia - W
BC - W lay up

5 guaranteed wins imo

With the best acc ol and solid but not great D due to secondary depth we should beat PITT, unc and Louisville

Hope for the best but I think the board will be positive post spring game

We’ll add in Washington, and Joseph.

People keep saying we don’t throw deep, we do. There was no one to catch it

The O line was trash but it wasn't the biggest problem on offense. The scheme was crap. TVD did what he could but receivers wouldn't catch the ball. Against A&M we couldn't find one guy outside of Will who would catch the football. That last 4th down from TVD was money, got the WR in his hands, in his face mask.

Just having both Young and X on the field at the same time is enough to make the offense productive. I'm not even thinking about an explosive deep guy. But one would think Miami could find some kind of deep threat. Maybe one of the other guys learns to be somewhat reliable.

What worries me is with this new retooled OL Mario tries that same trash he tried to start the season.

The deep shots in this offense are all specifically called shots. There’s very few plays where the QB has the option to take a deep shot if it’s available. The entire passing offense is incredibly stiff and nothing happens organically. If the play is designed for the X receiver, that’s where it goes. If he’s not open, it’s a check down. The guys on the outside are used mostly just to run their defender out of the play, or to block. It’s a very rigid system with very little improvisation or option routes. If your route takes you right past the open spot in the zone and into coverage, you don’t get the option of breaking it off. You just have to run to the designated spot. Modern passing games aren’t like that. Modern systems trust the WR and QB to make the decisions. Almost every route in an Air Raid has an option. Receivers can cut a route inside or outside depending on coverage. They can stop their route in a zone soft spot if they get certain types of zone coverage. The QB knows all of this. It’s all about seeing what the defense is doing pre and post snap and adjusting to it on the fly. Gattis’ passing offense isn’t like that at all. Everyone has a predetermined route and role and they have to run that route. Even if you’re just running yourself right into the strength of the coverage

The scheme is 100% reliant on having a dominant offensive line. If you can’t outmuscle your opponent in the run game, the whole system goes into the trash. I saw it during the Southern Miss game and knew we had no chance the rest of the season. The first half, Gattis tried to get cute and the offense stalled. Then towards halftime, he went super run heavy and the offense was able to move the ball and eventually start scoring points in the second half. It’s great against a low level G5 program but I knew as soon as we played anyone we couldn’t bully up front, we were done.

The WORST part about the whole thing is that they KNEW the line wasn’t good. Yet they made no type of adjustments to the system to make the offense competitive. Instead of saying “hey we don’t quite have the horses to do what we want so let’s try something different for now, they just kept ramming their heads against the wall trying to force something they KNEW wasn’t going to work. The coaches specifically and purposely forced the team to do what they knew wouldn’t work because they’re too stubborn/stupid to see otherwise.
