See that UConn's starting QB, Bryant Shirreffs (older brother of our current backup QB), has called it a career midway through his final season. Concussion related -- think he's suffered like five of them (last/current one against USF). Transferred from NC State and threw for over 6300 yards at UConn in his career. Tough kid.

Think we're gonna see more and more kids "retiring" while in college. For their future health. As we've started to see, players who are NFL prospects will sit out Bowl games (unless they are on one of the four playoff teams). Actually, wouldn't be surprised to see kids who pretty much have their draft position established start sitting out the final regular season games. Risk of injury and financial consequences too great.

I’m just shocked that people need to be told repeated head trauma injures the brain...people die from that but you need to be told it’s bad for you?
 
Real talk. Downvote away. If this kid had a pro future he wouldn't "retire." It is what it is. But you don't walk away from millions. This kid is quitting. Same as the 5'10 190 lb high school guard who can't play in college. Call it what you want, but the pain isn't worth the payoff.

For proof, Luke Keuchly probably will have a degenerative brain problem with all of his concussions. He isn't walking away from that paper.
 
Probably not if he was some first round talent. No point in taking excess damage to the head, or any other area for that matter, playing a sport you don’t like that much.

Y dont they just have like that cte **** in a contract. Just put u might get retarded from concussions but u may make millions. Have it in the contract that ur taking a risk so no one sues.....soccer is worse with the headers they say. I juat dont get it what will they tell mma and boxing that they can only punch legs
 
I think it's just an out. This guy wasn't going pro. Why take a beating for free? Use the concussion thing to get school paid for and then move on with your life. I have no doubt the dude has suffered from concussions. It probably makes life harder. But I also think Ben Roethlisberger has also. I know for a fact Wayne Chrebet played with concussions. It's a risk/reward analysis that every player has to eventually make.

My point is that if this dude was a projected first round pick with a guaranteed $15 million dollars he wouldn't be hanging the cleats up. If the reward outweighed the pain he'd be under center.

I was the 5'10 guard from CT I mentioned in my post. I quit after my junior year when I realized no college was interested. If I had a future you best believe I would have strapped it up.

Not sure Bryant Shirreffs, had he remained active, wasn't on a par with Kaaya. Might have been an NFL project who just did not have the receivers that Brad had here at UM to throw to.
 
Uconn has played very tough schedules over the years... They need to take care of his medical needs for life.
