I hope he wasn't playing basketball. I would suspect that 99% of teams have a rule that you don't play bball during the season because "things happen."

Remember, during the off-season, posters were making lists of scholarship guys who they wanted to be "cut" to clear up extra scholarships? This is why a new coach doesn't just come in and drop like twenty guys from the roster. You never purposely put yourself at a scholarship disadvantage because injuries happen. Sometimes lots of injuries happen. There's a handful of guys the team is going to have to play this season that CIS members placed on the chopping block.

I'm just surprised there isn't a rule or something against this, college kid yes but he's on scholarship to play football. He's not a regular college kid.

If there was any doubt that this team/program is cursed, then that doubt can be erased because this is a blessing in disguise. He needed to redshirt anyway.
