Bring Mario home

There are no slam dunk hires, but I would be looking for guys who have proven they can build a program.

Try to identify the next Matt Rhule, PJ Fleck, or Matt Campbell before they blow up, similar to what LSU did with Joe Brady as PGC.

I'd be open to outside-the-box picks.

Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson weren't obvious picks.

Wario doesn't impress me at all. We know he can recruit with Bama and Nike behind him.

Are we naive enough to think he would "clean up" in South Florida with all the divas and bagmen? Are 5-star kids really gonna be turning down "inducements" at Bama and Clemson because bro Cristobal can recruit bro?

I'm not convinced.

Besides, the assistant coaches and support staff do the bulk of the recruiting throughout the season.

Bama and Clemson have an army of support staff. I bet Oregon does, too.

Wario has also bungled too many games. The Stanford game last year and Auburn this year were total embarrassments.

On the positive side, I think he's probably a good closer as a recruiter, so we would likely see an uptick, but not some quantum leap to top 3 classes.

And he's hired some pretty decent assistants in his past, so maybe he's working with something.

But color me unimpressed with his body of work so far.

All that said, he's an upgrade over Manny on experience alone.

Rob Chudzinski!!

I kid, I kid....

i dont think well ever win a title with mario but well be a **** of a lot closer with him and may make a playoff run every few years if everything breaks right. id def take mario over manny and it isnt even close. the 80s are gone. the landscape has absolutely changed

Is that what we have become as a program. It's okay if we don't win it all as long as we don't suck too much? Everyone would take Mario over Manny except Manny and Blake, but in the end they are one in the same, a guy that will not lead us to the promised land. You are correct, the 80's are gone, but last I checked we won a MNC in 2001, and should have in 2002. If the school wanted to win, they could rebuild the program, and we could win a championship within a few years.

hey guy. @dsddcane can probably confirm. Golden was getting him a paycheck. coley started under mario. Golden was fine with him leaving. you guys just want to pick fights over nothing.
It was a favor on both sides and a temporary solution for all involved. No point in arguing this though. People simply love to argue.

thanks for responding.

I disagree on the resume but we don’t have to agree. Winning a power 5 conference and a NY6 bowl is hard to do. He recruits well but more so his team is physical and tough.

not sold on the idea of an up and comer. We tried that before. Miami is different and the kids here are different. We need someone that has experience winning at a power 5 school and knows how to manage egos of high level recruits. He learned that at Bama and he is doing it now at Oregon. Added bonus is that he specializes in offensive line play, our biggest weakness in 15 years.

I don't want to diminish winning a P5 conference, but the P12 might've been the worst it's been since Ty Willingham won it.

I agree that the up-and-comer route is a risk, but I think that's our best option.

Either that, or pull out the big money for an established name. But I just don't see us making a power move like that. The school has shown no willingness to be a big boy program.

i dont think so and yes thats what we've become.

oh i will. side note, didnt know it was a restaurant till i saw the commercials. who knew lol

Pretty sure it started in Baton Rouge , LSU grad started it. Rien Russillo always talks about them when he visits BR

Nick Saban had the #1 class every year for like 5 out of the last 6. He just lost 2 games, it's extremely difficult to go undefeated. Mario would be by far the best we've had since Butch

LSU and Clemson went undefeated this year. Saban lost his nfl qb. Come on man. Plus he plays in the SEC. Pac 10 is not an elite conference. With the team Oregon had, he should’ve gone undefeated easily. But if you all don’t see that, then move on.

There are a lot of factors to look at here. The team is heavy with JR's and SR's. These players would have been recruited by Helfrich and Taggart. Not discounting what Mario can do recruiting, but he inherited a team on the rise and at least for this year, and some next benefited from players that were not his.

Yes the players were physical in the game. That can be contributed to coaching, but also to the fact that the players have been in the program for years and have physically developed, not to mention state of the art facilities.

Those juniors and seniors went 7-6 and 4-8 the two years before Mario. Not exactly a program on the rise. He elevated those kids to a conference champion level.

Yep. The defense played lights out. The offense where Mario is from did nothing. Why don’t people see this?

Well the team went 4-8 in the last season with Helfrich. 7-5 with Taggart and 0-1 with Mario in 2017 for a 7-6 record. I would say almost doubling your wins is a team on the rise.

Interesting though how you put 2016 before 2015 so it appears they were going down before Mario took over. Would you be happy if Manny doubled his win total next year?

As noted, Taggart and Kelly had success there. What are they doing now?

Bet you if we had a competent OC we’d beat Oregon. Take away Taylor and this Wiski team is nothing. Still Oregon offensive numbers were pathetic. If Wiski doesn’t turn the baLl over they destroy Oregon
Seriously? You think “our” football team beats Oregon with a “competent” OC? Wow, just wow mate. I get Taylor was almost half of their offense but Wisky wiped us the last 2 bowl games before La Tech skunked us in this year’s tragedy. We would get dusted by Mario & Co. there’s no way around that. Is Mario Nick Saban or Dabo Sweeney? Nope I don’t think anyone here is saying that. Would he win the Coastal annually since the Coastal is weaker than the PAC-12 let’s be honest. I’d take winning the division with a shot at Clemson every year. Cuz there will be years we win that matchup and put us into the CFP or worst - a NY6 bowl game. Not the Walk-On Independence Bowl and losing to the likes of our 2nd G5 school of the season. That, yeah that I’d would take in a heartbeat.

MARIO is an offensive coach. How did the offense do with an nfl qb? Are u special?
No ‘tard I’m not special. He still is the Head Coach of the Oregon Ducks - which means, now stay with me here; that he hires his assistant coaches and helps in the recruiting process. That means he gets credit for both the offense and defense. If they didn’t win he would’ve taken the brunt of the criticism as well.

I'd love it.
He would be an idiot to leave what he's got for Miami.
He ain't coming I wouldn't leave for my dream job.....I would but won't if that makes sense cause if u know people aren't committed u will look like the fool. He got something there stay yo AZ put look at Taggert. We are cursed cause Mario will look at the Taggert situation and that will keep him from coming

Look at the ***ggots in here still trying to punch all their imaginary holes into Mario. You fccks deserve Manny and all the crap he smears into your tard faces as he drops another 7-8 games next year.

If Mario does want to come back to Miami. Which he may, because it is his Alma Mater. The bigger he wins at Oregon the better.

It will give him leverage when it comes to negotiating what his expectations are from the Administration. I want Mario to be able to dictate and demand exactly what is necessary to build a winning program. The higher his profile becomes the more likely that is.

Similar to what Richt did with getting the IPF. Richt had the right idea. He just got Lazy and didn’t continue to push for more support staff etc. (Obviously calling plays was another serious issue)

So hopefully Mario can continue to show he can run a program. Recruit, Coach and Lead. Manny will be fired soon enough.

I mean why leave where you are winning for a place you'd hope to win at? It's one thing if you're at a G5 school. He's at a well branded school in an easy P5 conference, with all the resources he needs. Miss me with that "but Miami" crap. Oregon is one of the most beautiful states in this country, it's not hot as balls 24/7, and the state has more to offer than just beach and clubs. Not to mention at Oregon, he could have statues built without even winning a championship. Here even if you get a championship, you'll be one of five.
