I like Stoops as a defensive coach. But I’m not really sure his accomplishments at Kentucky translate to winning at Miami. He’s at a school where he can go 7-6 every year and they’re happy and that’s pretty much what he does. Yes, they play in the SEC but if you break down their annual schedule, it’s not some daunting gauntlet. First off, they play in the East so they get games against Vandy, USCe, Tenn, and Missouri every year. Georgia has been generally a powerhouse for a bit but even Florida has been pretty up and down for the last decade. So that’s four conference games against the four weakest conference opponents every year. Add to that their four game non conference schedule is Louisville (an average ACC team) and three cupcakes every year. Stoops has generally won 3 of the 4 games against the weaker conference opponents, defeated the 3 cupcakes, and split the tally of games against UL and lower tier bowls. He’s done a good job by Kentucky standards and they seem content to be a 7-6 program so I think it’s in his best interest to stay there.
