Anyone who's watched clemson over the years knows that TE's carve up Vennables, we've got the best one in the nation in Brevin and a good one in Mallory. I hope Lashlee uses them well

It’s because their backers are generally not their best players. They’ve obviously had a ton of success, but look at the players drafted on defense since Venables got there in 2012 (so starting with 2013 draft):

2013
Goodman - DE 4th round
Meeks - DB 5th round

2014
Breeland - CB 4th round

2015
Beasley - DE 1st round
Anthony - LB 1st round (Decent as a rookie and then a flop)
Steward - LB 6th round (2 tackles in his career)

2016
7 defensive players drafted. BJ Goodson was the only backer. Fringe starter in 4 years for 3 different teams.

2017
Tankersly - CB 3rd round
Watkins - DT 4th round

2018
O’Daniel - LB 3rd round (Backup)

2019
5 defensive players drafted, no backers

2020
Simmons listed as a LB but he’s a hybrid
Muse LB 3rd round.

He really hasn’t produced any high end backer prospects. The DL is where they’ve made their bread and butter. And they’ve had some excellent DB prospects. But the backers have been very meh at best overall.

Jarrid williams might be the most underrated player on the team, if he can help us solidify the OL against their DL long enough for king and brevin to beat their backers then we're in business

We've seen a decent amount from Brevin so far this season and very little from Mallory. I think that's been by design -- I've had a feeling for a while now Lashlee has been saving most of the TE plays for this game.

fwiw mallory was on his way to a big game agaisnt LVille i think and the penalties hurt what wouldve been a td catch

I've been thinking the same, wasn't sure if I was overthinking it or not but I'm not sure what else would justify Mallory's low usage.

Lets hope X gets some burn also. That quick slant right behind the LBs will be there all night. Pope and Hartley seem to drop that pass every time.

We need to just take what they give us. If it is TE's, use them. If it is over the middle, use Dee.
I personally think they will try to take away the TEs, forcing us to beat them in other areas. Well, take what they give, then when they try to stop that, hit the TEs, or whoever else is open.

Believe he was also like second on the team in drops last year. But I have a sneaky suspicion he's about to have his breakout game. Give me both TE's and Rooster on the field at the same time.

Unfortunately, In this case at least, our Te’s are too good to get lost. OJ Howard wasn’t a first rounder until he played Clemson. Pitt’s guy is a nobody. Unlike those guys, ours are the focal point of our offense. Won’t be that easy.
