Week 1 of the Polls are just as meaningless as the preseason poll.
Maybe even more so due to the over-reaction factor.

No one can even say that with certainity. LSU may end up being a crap team that loses 5 games or they could run the table. That is the problem with preseason polls. The FSU win is considered the best because LSU was ranked 5th to start the season based on nothing. They have the best week 1 win. **** em. Move on.
Agreed on preseason polls, but in the context of those polls, the #8 team romperstomped the #5 team. If we were that #8, we would have no issue with being ranked #1 other than to say, I don't want to be ranked until we prove we can stay ranked...No one can even say that with certainity. No one can say with certainty that any team is good or bad this early in the season so who cares that someone ranks a team that played well over an opponent that is expected to be good as the #1 team. The real issue IMO is when voters are unwilling to move teams in accordance with their play on the field b/c of where the team started/was in the previous week in the polls. No one can even say that with certainity. Putting FSU at 1 this early is obviously laughable but let me ask you this-
Let's say Clemson was #1/defending national champ and played a Tennessee Martin week 1 AND had a cupcake schedule all year.
Now let's say Tennessee is # 8 and absolutely spanks a #5 Notre Dame or Michigan.
Would there be an absolute consensus of ridicule if one (or more) media member(s) jumped Tennessee to #1?
I think we all know the answer to that and can hear the talking heads on a certain network and a certain conference network making the case for why it makes complete sense.
Yup. It can be both things. He is a provocateur but I also can't necessarily attack the logic. We have these discussions all the time when one team beats a good team and other teams in front win meaningless games and there's discussion about whether we should put one team's resume ahead of what we think teams in front are capable of.Being right is not as lucrative as being shocking.
