Tallahassee (FL) Godby High School OL and Cane commitment Brendan Loftus expects to visit UM the weekend of Jan. 16.
"It's not set up yet but that's when I think it'll be," he said.
Loftus says he's also considering Penn State - "Penn State is recruiting me hard," he said. "I'm not sure yet if I'll visit there."
Coaches Brennan Carroll and Art Kehoe are recruiting him to Miami.
"I talk to them a lot," Loftus said. "They say they can't wait for me to get down to Miami."
His expectation in Year 1 as a Cane?
"Hopefully I get an opportunity to play," Loftus said. "If I have to redshirt that's something I'll do, but I'd like an opportunity to play. Coming in with a recruiting class like we have - if it sticks out to national signing day - I'm real excited about it because I don't think Miami has been able to have a recruiting class like this since the sanctions were let off. This is really the first year they've been able to recruit like this."
Of the future of the Cane program, Loftus said, "It's going to be a great program. I'm excited. We're definitely on the come-up. I don't think there's really a lot to prove, just a lot to show people what we can be in these next four years."
Another reason for Loftus' optimism - standout freshman QB Brad Kaaya.
"I talked to him at U Day - he said when he came in it was like a family, and I just can't wait to get to Miami and get to know all my teammates," Loftus said. "He'll be in the Heisman talk these next couple of years."
Loftus' team finished with a 12-3 record and reached the state title game (losing to American Heritage).
"It was a good season," said Loftus, who played left tackle. "I just worked on the little things in my game to try and perfect it. I just worked on footwork, the proper steps and hand placement and all that."
