2027 Brayden Parks 4* DT from Chicago, IL (Brother Rice HS)

Chicago kid that attends Rice would have to be a heavy ND lean, right?

Would love to see Miami get into Mt Carmel. Best team in the state. Jordan Lynch is the HC there and he is pumping out D1 talent. Not sure if you all remember him from Northern Illinois. Heisman finalist in 2013.

Sorry if I missed a discussion on this, but…is it me or is Illinois way more loaded than usual the last few years? I know it’s inevitable population center is going to have studs, but just never felt like Chicagoland was a hotbed for football…was looking at the Illinois state rankings on 247 and it seems like they have like 10 top 100-150 dudes this cycle? Outlier? Just me being ignorant?

I think you are correct. The traditional powers like Mt. Carmel and St. Rita have always had their share of D1 prospects, but it seems more widespread now throughout the metro area. It seems to coincide with a significant drop in the number of basketball prospects coming out of the area. I don’t know if there is a correlation there but is very interesting.

Definitely noticed this. Until the last few years, you'd rarely see more than one Chicago-area player in the top 100 or so prospects. Seems like that changed noticeably just recently.

With the usual caveat the rankings aren't a perfect predictor.

I lived in Chicago for some time. Back in the 90s, most kids were playing basketball. You can thank Jordan for that. After I moved, I think Derrick Rose, being a Chicago native, kept basketball at the top. Maybe things are changing now?

Preps hoops have changed dramatically since I was a senior at St. Joes. Used to be Proviso East, Westinghouse, King, Thornton, etc. and now the powers are totally different it seems.
Basketball is weird now here compared to the 90s.

Miami’s has historically pulled great players from Chicago. Russell, Mike Sullivan, Andre Brown, Jarret Payton, etc.

But definitely seems like we’re making it an area of focus. The catholic league especially.

He [Brayden's Father] said he wished the family visited sooner because they enjoyed it so much. This trip was an eye opener for them and really put Miami in a true position to land the Windy City prospect.

Tons of Midwest kids have a misconception of Miami as a school. I know it’s been talked about here a ton. The school he attends worships everything ND related but reality is that Miami checks a bunch of those boxes as well.
