Braxton Berrios @ Combine

Even if he ran poorly here and did well at pro day some scouts just keep a bad performance engrained in their minds

That’s got to be the fear. They might overvalue the combine performance without taking into consideration the circumstances. Too much risk of putting up a bad number that will create an undeserved bias that could cost somebody millions.

I disagree I think if he could have worked out he should have, and then just told EVERYONE that he was doing the drills at half strength.
Would have given him a mulligan basically.
And now all he has on his combine is being the shorted WR with the shortest arms in the draft. (or 2nd shortest).

To reiterate what some other guys said, obviously the combine is a big opportunity with all of the eyes on you. Braxton could’ve solidified at the least getting drafted and likely moved up a round or two if he exceed expectations in the testing. With that said a bad time here can can keep in at the 7th round to free agency. Smart move not to take the risk since he got hurt and just wait for pro day. It would be better to be Udfa than go in 6th or 7th round. That way he can pick his own team , and get the first ticket to Boston.

Can always count on my boy to be the voice of dopey dissent and unreasonableness.

Im not saying he definitely should have or risked further injury, Im saying if he could, have it would have looked good for him to fight through it....at least to do the running drills. since it sounds like an upperbody injury maybe just stay out of the actual wr drills where he'd need to catch.

And if he did terrible, he could use that as an excuse.

Berrios is super smart. I hope doesn't waste time getting mashed in the Pros and makes his $$ in business w an intact squash

That’s pretty much the polar opposite of what he should have done. Exacerbating whatever injury he has could cost him his pro day as well. He has zero off field issues, this will raise no red flags. Sit it out and wow them at the U later.

“It’s not like you use your upper body to run sprints or anything” thinks someone whose never run a sprint in his life

first of all i didn't say that.
second of all just becuase you injured/hurt your upperbody doesn't mean you CANT run without risking further injury. If you have a broken arm, can you still run? I'm pretty confident you can run with a pec injury. it might hurt, but i also dont think youre really at risk from further injury for it. I have no idea what Berrios' injury is btw..

whatever yall just tryna take my point out of contrext that it would have looked good to still run and it would have given him a mulligan and wouldn't have been a bad idea as long as it didn't put him at risk of future injury.

Just stop man. Nobody gives a **** how confident you are that he can run with an injury you have no idea about. Seriously do you have Aspergers?

Berrios is 1st team ALL AMERICAN ACADEMIC, PERFECT GPA, ACC TATUM AWARD TOP SCHOLAR ATHLETE. Yet you have the audacity to question his decision making. You really need to think before you speak.

I don't think he is the type of prospect that would be given the chance do give an excuse. He cant afford to have a leave a bad first impression because he might not recover from it.

I completely agree. Also, a lot of UM players notoriously do better in the NFL than they did at Miami, for a variety of reasons, but mostly because of previous coaching staff's (think Jamal Carter, Jon Feliciano, Ray-Ray Armstrong, Anthony Chickillo, etc...). Because of that, NFL scouts flood our Pro Day because they know they can get some future studs in the mid-late rounds.

Braxton will have his time to shine and I am confident that if healthy, he is going to do just that!
Yeah, we went from “when in doubt, draft the Cane at you position of need because he will be like a 3rd year pro on first day” to wait and get a bargain on Canes because they under perform in college”. That is the impact of crappy coaching and not using players right.

His production and toughness speaks for itself. If someone watched his film and wanted to see him run around cones in gym shorts to make up their minds, they weren't drafting him anyway. He will show out at Pro Day but the teams drafting him will be the same ones who had him on the boards all along.

This is correct on all levels. A kid who is fighting to be a late round pick should NEVER run at the combine if they're injured unless you're a small school player who has to worry about teams attending your pro day.

that sucks for him, but his film plus pro day should allow him to keep his value. ****, put on the tape for the last 3 minutes of the FSU game. he kept the sticks moving and the clock from ticking. i've met him a few times and he is every bit of a smart kid with a great and winning attitude.
