2026 Brandon McCoy 5* CG

Would McCoy start? Would he send Allen to the bench or both start?

McCoy
Allen
Gaskins
Shelton
[Need Center]

Incredible athleticism and defense right there, with abysmal shooting (as it stands today).

Im thinking Allen or McCoy need to come off the bench.

Is McCoy a true PG?

I know you didn’t ask me, but I was typing this as you asked. He’s not, but he knows how to get by people and he has this confidence and fearlessness about him that would make me feel comfortable with him “running point.” That probably sounds stupid. And I don’t think he has the best vision. Seems like he just want to get to the rim (which he is good at).

My issue would be we are really small AND can’t shoot. Just doesn’t sound like a great combo. I don’t see Gaskins as a 4. He’s a wing to me and that’s the direction he probably needs to go for a good draft stock. We need a real frontcourt imo

I could see

McCoy
Dante
Shelton
Real 4
Real 5

Gaskin off bench

I’d love to see us get a couple bigs who could stretch the floor. That would address the shooting and give a lot of freedom for Shelton and Gaskins to attack the rim.

Yea as I watched the game yesterday, I came to the realization that Gaskins is not a 4 (rn). Hes a 3.

Can Shelton play the four? He would be very undersized height wise, but may have the strength to pull it off.

I think if we were to get McCoy, one of McCoy/Allen/Gaskins would need to come off the bench.

The teams playing a true 4 and 5 together are becoming fewer and far between. We did it this past year but consider the teams in this year's Final Four:

- Michigan is huge and plays two 6'9 forwards beside their 7'3 center
- Arizona plays 2 combo forwards (6'8 Koa Peat and 6'7 Ivan Kharchenkov).
- Illinois has the Ivisic brothers at Center, who they stagger. They then play Stojakovic (a bigger guard at 6'7), Mirkovic (6'9) and Humrichous (who's also 6'9 but more of a perimeter player).
- UConn is probably the smallest of the 4 and really don't have a true frontcourt player in their starting lineup outside of Tarris Reed (Karaban is a combo G/F imo)

We'll absolutely need a true 6'11-7 ft C but we'll have size for sure.

Shelton is 6'6 tho. Gaskins at 6'8 has the height, but his frame just didnt look like a PF (hes young tho, not out of the qiestion he packs on some pounds the next few months). I get the concept of positionless bball, but I also think about our final four run when we ran into Uconn and there was nothing we could do against those bigs.

A lot of different styles of bball work, but im a littlle old fashion. I like having some legit size on the floor.

UCONN wasn't a big team in the grand scheme. Their tallest player (Clingan) came off the bench and their tallest starter (Adama Sanogo) was 6'9. Otherwise, they went 6'9, 6'8, 6'6, 6'5, 6'4, which is decent, but far from imposing.

We just happened to start a center that was 6'5 and got eaten alive down low.
