Brad kaaya vs Fsu and Virginia tech 2014/2015

And our running game seems to have died with the advent of the spread, so he needs too. In any event, the kid has the goods for spread or pro set.

Who have we struggled to run the ball against other than FSU?

IMO the spread is the only reason we've been able to run the ball at all. There's no way this O-line could run the ball into the stacked defensive front that we would see if we lined up in the I-formation.

VT- 39/99 2.54 ypc

Ok...however...

VT loaded the box all day and played man coverage behind it. We didn't struggle to run the ball because of the offense, we struggled cause they out-numbered us in the box majority of the game.

I was actually surprised how aggressive VT was up front.

I was surprised how dumb the coaches were consistently running in 8 and 9 man boxes... We had slants open all day too, the middle of the field was wide open

I know I wasn't the only one that saw that.

I felt like VT was "trying" us. I'm not used to seeing defenses do that against a Miami offense. Most DC's are scared of Miami's speed at WR, scared to get beat over the top. VT didn't give 2 fvcks. They stacked the box, blitzed, played man and dared us to throw.

Because they knew our coaches are dumb af and wouldn't adjust regardless what they saw. However remember Virginia tech still have some of better dbs in college football

I think they were still suffering head damage from Duke Johnson last year. Didn't he run for about 800 yards against them. Saw some quote from Frank during we that we just kicked their butts or something. Guess they were determined to not let us run all over them again.

Or perhaps is because we're a spread offense now and it's easier for him to make reads and get rid of the ball.

Coach, I admit to not being a spread fan, but preventing that stuffing the box one of the things the spread supposedly more or less makes impossible? VT is not known for stupid defense, even if they are far off their peak -- much like us.

I feel like I am a broken record, but those stats only tell part of the story. Brad has not earned his crown.

6-9 vs Power 5 conference. Low 3rd down conversion rate, not scoring enough in the red zone, and not coming through in big games. He doesn't have a signature win yet either. Let the season play out. He's playing well and is a breath of fresh air for this program. I ain't doubting him but I sure as **** need to see him win some more games before I tattoo his name on my *** like some of you.

While I have a general level of agreement with your take, I cannot seem to separate Kaaya's results from al golden's results over his 10.5 year head coaching career. Time will tell who the problem is, as I fully expect the marketplace to tell us who is worth more in the next few years.

All that said, two years in a row, Brad Kaaya had the ball in his hands with 3 minutes left in the fourth quarter and a chance to beat FSU. Both times he came up well short. He's got two more chances. We'll see.

With any QB that we've had back until Brock, we get blown out by FSU two weeks ago. Brad was a gunslinger and brought us back from 17-3. With Jacory, SteMo, KW, Kirby, etc, we lose that game 41-10 instead of 29-24.

That's a fair opinion. I have no real disagreement with it.

I can say that Kaaya won us the Va Tech game on that drive right before the half when golden tried to golden out of being aggressive.

Again, I'm generally in the same camp as CoachMacho on this topic. Its hard to attribute Kaaya's shortcoming to Brad himself when this coaching staff has shown the exact same shortcomings over a much longer period than Kaaya's been playing college ball.

The spread is supposed to prevent defenses from stuffing the box...

But you have to be able to throw the ball. Your WR's have to be able to create separation. Apparently VT wasn't scared of our WR talent.

Ideally we should've been able to air it out against them.

As far as the spread vs. pro subject goes...

Ask yourself if you'd rather have Kaaya taking snaps from under center and taking 5/7 step drops behind this O-line.

I think VT was still shook from last year. Miami ran all over them in Blacksburg.

Same thing they did against Ohio State in week 1. They weren't going to allow Zeke Elliot to beat them. Ohio State hit some big plays early but eventually Cardale's inability to make those throws consistently kept Virginia Tech in the game. Braxton Miller eventually broke their back.

They were cover one most of the game stacked the **** out of the box all game, hard to run on that, this O-line is horrible, our routes that we run are horrible, we had better separation in this game against the man coverage, still the routes are too generic and i dont like the pacing too much either

As for kaaya, the only game i that lost id say he choked was last years FSU game, and even then that play call was horrible in that situation, this years wasnt his fault at all the guy threw 3 TDs and isidora was man handled by the defender and he was able to tip the pass, herb on that play was wide open
