Oddly, you didn't mention any linemen (on either side of the ball of defensive players. I guess only offensive skill players figure into the team equation. Also, there's a difference between footwork taking drops and footwork being elusive (a dual threat). We all know Kayaa was pretty stationary but this is the first time anyone claimed he had bad footwork.

To say we had a bad team is not making an excuse, it's an admission of reality. His last two years, he was not the reason we lost. He was the reason it was even close.

Then why was it that essentially the same team won the coastal with a supposedly drastically inferior QB the year after he left?

Easy, after 15 years of consistently poor luck (along with poor coaching), the football gods turned things around for us all in one year (or at least the first 10 games) Since then, we reverted back to form.

What's our record been since the Pitt game in 2017?

kaaya should've won more but he wasn't the problem. If he had this defense and a competent coaching staff he would've gotten us 10 wins yearly but he didn't. He wasn't great but he wasn't the reason we faltered so he's still a Cane all day

The last thing I want to do is put down a Cane, but there is a reason he didn't make it in the NFL (which has nothing to do with our O-Line). I just don't understand why some people can't acknowledge his flaws. Kaaya could throw a pretty ball, but his inconsistencies were present all 3 years he was here. If it wasn't bad footwork, then what would you call it? Watch the 1st half of the Notre Dame game in 2016 and you will cringe. (Our O-Line is whole different topic for another day)

Sure he had his flaws. He was a good QB but not great or as some say "elite". Many (not just on this board) were expecting him to make the next step up after his sophomore year. It seems like much of the trashing he gotten is rooted in their disappointment that he didn't take that step. He deserves better.

As far as his Achilles heel, he's a lot like Eli Manning in the regard that he's a stationary QB behind a porous line. Not a good combination.

You called it luck, aka "the football gods". What break did we catch against FSU? Does the phantom illegal block while we were pushing GT's **** on during the final drive count as a "break" that fell our way? Funny thing is, even with your argument and say we lost these games we "caught breaks" in, we still would've won the Coastal.

Offense only scored 19 against FSU, 13 against UNC, 16 against VaTech all loses. The offense did put up 27 points in a lost to Notre Dame but we lost that game bc Kaaya choked again. Maybe if he could figure out how to get more than 1 TD out of 42 pass attempts we would’ve won??

Exactly! That 4 game losing streak was more about our offense than defense. We were home against FSU (who gave up 63 to Louisville and 37 to UNC) and UNC (who gave up 36, 35, and 34 in the 3 games prior). How do we only score 19 and 13 in those 2 home games? And Notre Dame was trash and we got in a big hole 1st half because we couldn't move the ball.

I'm the first to admit that as a program we put ourselves in this situation, but you're in denial if you don't think that for some time, by chance, largely outside of our control, things have not fallen our way. Having a convicted perjurer and ponzi-schemer acting like a booster then spilling his guts leading to an NCAA witch hunt. Career ending injuries (Richards, Mullens). Countless other bounces that seemingly consistently went the "wrong way".

Then things start to even out. A 5-year senior, who's shown no inclination to make game changing plays, makes a 360 catch with time running out, the ball just breaking the goal line when the knee hits, and the refs up holds the call on the review. Then the next week, the same receiver, on 4th and 10, with 40 second left, behind by two, makes a first down catch while he was falling down, that was tipped by the defender, and bounced off the defender's helmut before it landed in his chest. Both were the defining plays of those games.

Now I love what Langham did for us but you have to believe both were serendipitous for us to happen the way it did. Yes, given our history, I believe for a change the football gods were kind to us.

Now back to the real world. I was wrong earlier. I forgot to include last years Pinstripe bowl. We are actually 7 - 11 beginning with the Pitt 2017 game.

This take isn’t it man... just because beard on some of Miami’s best teams doesn’t mean he was ever better than Richards whatsoever
