Bowl Game defense

It has already been reported and Diaz even said in his Temple presser he is coaching the bowl game. Maybe it’ll change but that’s what has been official thus far.

Can’t wait until spring practices start and we get to hear all the rave reviews about how great the defense is looking, how dynamic the scheme is, how the D hasn’t missed a beat, how it seems like the D is ready for EVERYTHING the O can throw at them....

Against Richts archaic, 4 play offense.

If you were Mark Richt would you have Banda calling plays for the bowl game?

I think it would be smart to give them a chance to game plan and call the game.

I know Manny Diaz was to stay and finish what he started, but he’s leaving the program it doesn’t really do anything help us for next year.

IDGAF who calls the defense, just don't play conservative bend don't break B.S.

Letting Wisconsin kick Bandas teeth in on national TV will hurt our recruiting even more than it already is.

Don't forget they will be talking about the ones on defense going against the 2s on defense!!

A Bowl Game win should be helpful to recruiting, whereas a loss, especially a lopsided loss will give the usual suspects ammunition to further attack the Canes football program. Also, the Bowl practices will present the incoming Defensive coordinators the opportunity to be mentored by Manny.

Also, if the new DC's are in charge during the Bowl Game and the defense plays poorly this will give the Herd the head start they are praying for to immediately call for the new coaches be fired, and once again slamming Coach Richt for making, in their addled opinions, a terrible decision.

If we lose, it won’t be bc of our defense

There is no question tha the defense is the strength of this year's team. If Perry has progressed, along with the offensive line people may conclude after the game that the Canes won because of their offense. Unfortunately, the forecasted weather will do no favors for the offense.

Diaz should be gone, and new co-s should start calling, running, and organizing every phase of the defense - if not your first experience will come
vs. Mullen and Florida

I say let Banda and Patke make up the defensive game plan and Manny oversee it. Good chance for Manny to oversee the development of the defensive game plan (as he will do as HC at Temple) and teach the young bucks how to do it. Step in when he sees something and stay back when they are doing ok. Banda and Patke will have to scheme against UF opening game next year so they better get started now.

Love Diaz and certainly we will miss him. But if Banda and Patke were the best hire for DC's, why would you have someone under contract to another school "guest" coach the defense? This isn't an alumni game, and aren't Banda and Patke capable now?

great post. absolutely it is the right decision to have the guys who will be running the defense next year, design the game plan and call the defenses for the bowl game. perfect opportunity to get their feet wet. why wait till next year ?

Diaz could be there at the game if he wants, but not in his FORMER role in any way as DC.

They weren't the best hires for DC. I can answer that for you now.

Diaz needs to by in Philly or with Temple in Shreveport. No reason to return for the bowl game unless searching for TV air time to promote himself and new coaching gig. We love you, Manny, but move on.

What good will Manny do for the Canes in Coaching our D for the Bowl game?.....
I know to be with his boys,(stated in his Presser), but for us this is a bigger picture, meaning we have to be moving ahead to 2019, not moving furniture around and guessing where things should be......our Co D Coaches should be all in....Planning and calling this game.

Manny can watch on the sidelines or in the booth......his mind is not in the game anyway, his mind is tuned in to getting his staff together, and learning his player's names......Thanks but we are planning ahead...
