BOLO ALERT! MIAMI’S OFFENSIVE LINE!!

Offensive line has been a problem for years. And this year's version (the worst of the bunch) was identified as a big problem during spring ball. We just let coach speak convince ourselves that it wasn't a problem. The offense isn't going anywhere until we fix the line - period. You could have Lane Kiffin as the OC and honestly you wouldn't get much better results (although Perry would be a much better QB with Lane than with Sonny Boy Jon who has no business coaching QBs - but that's another topic all together). And this isn't blocking schemes or stunts. This is poor technique compounded by poor coaching. Stacy Searels is a very poor technician and teacher. I didn't think much of his work at VaTech and always felt he was a poor hire. The only times he did well is when he had superior talent (does this sound familiar aka: Art Kehoe?). Watch the o-line play this year is really sad. The line is always blocking off balance, leaning in with their upper body (which is a part of being off balance) without flexing their knees, and lack good wide stance and grinding footwork - all of it poor technique. Also they are slow, very slow and struggle to pick up blitzes and stunts - once again coaching. Look either go out and find 6 5-Star recruits that want to play o-line here, or get a new coach. Until we do that, we will struggle. Either way we will most likely lose to Boston College and VaTech (defense could pull it out for us, but that is asking a lot from that side of the ball) - I just don't see how this team with this line can beat BC or VT. Also because this team is a bit weak and doesn't take a punch well, don't be surprised if we drop one more game outside of BC & Tech. Here is hoping I am totally off base in my predictions...

The coaches had 3 games where they could have put in the talented young Oline. Let the best talent gel together and be a legit unit. Nobody rotates on-line but Miami and it finally caught up. However, all the team problems fall down to the coaching staff. We should have not lost last night game. With the talent we have and the team we played against. You could score at least 3 touchdowns. QB play, offensive line, play calling... Coaching Staff.

I'm confused. The head coach is ultimately responsible for overseeing the recruitment of talent and developing that talent. The OP is railing on the O-line but is giving the coaches a pass. WTF!! His disease-symptom analogy is laughable. A poor performing unit in the 3rd ******* year of a head coach's tenure is absolutely a symptom of the underlying disease( Morkitis).

You’re a ****** that’s keeps taking the focus off the guy paid 4 million a year to not have a god awful ol/offense.

What’s funny is the offense has recruited circles around the d yet the d has a top five unit.

Now F off.

Trying not to be rude, but is your family tree decorated with morons, or are you the 'special one' who the rest of your relatives point too and whisper; "He's slow because at birth he was starved of oxygen for 45 minutes and his tiny brain never developed." I bet your mommy and daddy puts a cork on your fork anytime you eat so you don't poke your eye out. Now settle down Ruprecht!

The zone blocking scheme scheme exposes their weaknesses more than anything. I’m starting to see it more and more, yeah the oline looks bad at atimes but richt is certainly doing them no favors at all with his playcalling

I disagree. Our O-Line is not dominate by any stretch of the imagination so let’s be clear I’m not saying they are BUT having a great playcaller plays to the strength of his personnel. Richt gets paid Millions of dollars to see what’s going on out there and put us in the best position to win. He chose to be the playcaller and I refuse to believe he can’t see what we see but I think he’s too stubborn to change and that’s where the problem lies.

The offense we run is extremely basic and Richt knows we don’t have the best O-Line and yet he INSISTS on running up the middle for the whole first half of every game which surprises nobody. The reason so many of our run plays fail is because they’re the same play and nobody is being caught off guard since we’re predictable. FSU was feasting in our backfield first half and ole Richt just kept trying to run up the middle after seeing it fail countless times.

If you have an offensive line that consistently can't pass block or run block what strength is Coach Richt going to play too? He was running up the middle because most every time they run to the edge it ends up being a negative yardage play.

Improve the offensive line to just average and the Canes will start putting on offensive shows.

It would help the Oline if their OC's playbook wasn't limited to a handful of plays. I can call out the plays ffs and I spend no time game planning.

Teams are very comfortable with this incredibly predictable offense and only an elite group of NFL quality linemen could consistently perform under those circumstances.

I agree...you are confused! For your edification, head coaches rely on their position coaches, along with other recruiting staff members to recommend players to recruit/sign. If the offensive line does not improve markedly from here on out then Searles will almost assuredly be replaced. What is crystal clear...you don't know what you don't know!

Blaming the OL and OL coach in this offense is equivalent to blaming the DL and DL coach in Golden/D’O defense. Your anger is misplaced.

1st off that fullback dive is played out... as soon as they line up I-formation they know where its going... run a fake off of it or something ****

I owe you a sincere apology as I thought I watched the 2018 Miami versus Virginia football game where the team with a 'U' on their helmets saw their quarterback pressured on almost every passing play, if not sacked.
Hmmm... that would seem to be the perfect time for quick timing patterns. Instead we get 4 receivers running as far as they can down the field. Not the best way to get the ball outta the QBs hands quickly.

I’m not sure we watch the same games bruh. IJS we can pass the ball and have shown the ability to do so. Tell me something, when the playcalling is so predictable with the same run play up the middle on 1st&2nd down is it not a tough ask of your O-line and QB to expect them to pick up 3rd&6+ consistently? Richts playcalling doesn’t help the team. He puts the offense in bad spots having to try and execute on 3rd and long everytime. Funny how when asked about it last night he showed how stubborn he really is by saying the plays have been working for 30 years. That just shows he is unwilling to change and that stubbornness is hurting the team.

Earnest is trolling. He loves to post novels wherein he takes the viewpoint counter to the board.

Anybody who excuses the coaching here is either a relative of a coach, or a troll.

It might help the o line a bit if we stop the zone blocking and start blocking down hill. It’s a lot tougher to get movement blocking side ways. It would mean less shot gun runs.

As far as the fullback dive...it’s gonna be tough to block when they know it’s coming

That's exactly it. In our glory years I never worried at all if the offensive line started the season slowly. The downhill emphasis meant they would improve dramatically as the season wore on -- in confidence and physicality and everything else -- and everything in the playbook would be cleansed as a result.

Now it is 100% the opposite. I don't care if our offensive line looks good early in the season because the zone blocking emphasis means that it is not foundational at all. We are a cupcake offense. Consequently we earn all the frailties associated.

Who is responsible for picking the starters? Who is responsible for getting the players game ready? Who is responsible with creating offensive schemes that are effective against good defenses? Who is getting paid to put the best product on the field?
The players____, The student body____, CIS members____, or the coaching staff_____
Any questions???

This is where I’m at. I’m by no means absolving the OL of responsibility. There are some legitimate personnel concerns. However, Richt exacerbates the problem with his play calling. Our plays are predictable and take too long to develop. He is not putting the OL in a position to succeed. I want to see more screens and quick passes to our play makers. Fewer stretch runs and play action deep balls into double coverage in obvious passing downs. Stop asking our OL to hold their blocks so long.

Sigh. Rewatch the game. On pass plays the QBs didn't have much pressure throughout the game. But you go ahead with the narrative you have no knowledge of.
