Bobby Leath 2015 JUCO DT as a UM Prospect

I am still bothered that UM couldn't turn a blind eye to make a major academic exception for 6'4" 300lbs DT/SDE Bobby Leath from Lake Wales, FL who had a UM offer for the 2013 Class. Simply put the kid is a beast when it comes to inside out pressure. He ended up at a Coffeyville JUCO in Kansas and from there was supposed to head to KSU courtesy of his former High School coach who happen to get a job coaching in Kansas ( cough cough). KSU is now starting to slow play him with a wait and see approach do to academic concerns, which is ironic so Leath has started looking around at schools. Rumor has it UGA has been quitely keeping intouch with the young man, in hopes that he gets his academics in order enough for them to steal him. Coming from a small citrus growing town like Lake Wales, FL I can tell you building a relationship will trump the SEC media rah rah and combined with the small class size at UM, him coming to coral gables would be the best case.

I believe Leath may have red-shirted in his first year (2013) in order to get his academics started on a stable foundation, since there is only his spring practice highlights and I think 1 games from the 2013 season vs NE Okla A&M.

If ever there was a case in the last 3 yrs UM could have explored the possibility of LD or special academic exemption for admission purposes Leath would be in my top 2. Hopefully UM will stay intouch with him and monitor his academic progress, to set him up as a plan C type JUCO DT for the 2015 class if we miss on some other prospects.

3 years ago and again more recently as a reference in another thread. But with staff leaning toward bringing in more players that are Jumbo hybrid DT/SDE types with the intention of bulking them up while hoping they maintain their athleticism; I felt why not discuss this young in his own thread.

His tape shows a tendency to avoid blocks and make tackles in the backfield. I am fairly sure that does not fit Al scheme. Maybe if they add 30 lbs to him it will limit his mobility enough to get some PT.

Wow, this is an interesting spin. We're upset that Miami wouldn't turn a blind eye to the kid's academic deficiencies coming out of HS, yet no one else signed him and he ended up at a JUCO. What does that tell you? And now Kansas State is slow playing him over academic concerns. Well, last I checked K-State is in a league with Marshall and Louisville _ schools of last resort - when it comes to admissions standards.

He was named to the Florida 5A All State 2nd team for DT in 2013.

I really like the one's we landed for 2014, but I would have liked 1 more true prep NT to add quality depth over the next 4 years not just 2 years. Also missing out on Cory Johnson was a huge let down he will be a star UK.

I also think there will be a surprise or two for the UM 2015 class coming from the prep ranks that commit to UM.

So more BS. No one ever mentioned this guy before, no one signed him (probably cause grades were ****) and you're still bothered about it.
