Bobby Bowden throwing up the U with coach Stroud

Back in the day, in Tallahassee, when I was 22 years old, I became the chief caterer for a company called "Manna", which was the catering wing of a restaurant called "The Warf." Bobby was very close with the owners of the restaurant/catering company. He would literally cater from us at least once a week for his team and/or family.

I am sure the CIS fam is going to kill me for what I am about to disclose, but he actually became a semi friend of the family. He informed his assistant to specifically request Manna/me (Reg) to cater his gatherings. At the time, it was only me, the wife, and my oldest daughter. One random night, he gave me a $5,000 tip for a simple gathering at his home, that truthfully only warranted a $200 tip. He said to "take $1,000 and buy your wife something special; take $3,990 and put it towards a college fund for your child." (at the time I only had 1 child) The best part, he said, "with the remaining $10, go get you something to eat, you look hungry, buddy."

I hate the Noles as much as anyone, but I will always have love for Bobby!
@reg The man stood and talked "UM FB" with me...(Not FSU FB) for a solid 5-10mins....I was completely stunned about his knowledge about UM FB.....I also remember us talking about the Hardship of the Sanctions (this being 97) I told him about my cousin being on the UM staff, and he said "Quote"...UM is in good hands with Butch....just you wait and see....(this wasnt long after the banner)....Welp...Low and behold...a few yrs later.........

@reg I too was in the Culinary Profession (I was an Exec Sous Chef in Destin Fl) And was in Tally for a Food show...That same day (Night) I went to a FSU vs Georgia Tech Hoops game, and at halftime they were Honoring several FSU FB players....Warrick Dunn...Rock Preston..and Snoop Minnis....
The guy I was with is still a close friend...(31yrs now) FSU season ticket holder and Grad...(entire family are FSU grads) and Dad who was a Pretty big Booster...Snoop was Super cool....(watched him play HS FB in Miami)...and so was Warrick...

I'll just leave this here...

Bobby and many of the Noles participated in Gino’s golf outing for ALS at Doral for many years. There was a tremendous amount of respect on both sides. UM-FSU in the late 80s early 90s led to a few NCs. Great games and Bobby is a good man.

Very mixed feelings about that picture. Definitely great/funny to see an FSU legend hold up the U. However as someone who has had grandparents with advanced dementia, I can definitely see signs that he may not even understand what's going on. I met Bowden a couple of times and he was one of the most sincere/good human beings I have ever come across. Much respect to a worthy adversary.

Now THIS is a picture I can get behind:

Great story!

Just joking, dude!

Been doing it to Bowden for the last 20 years.

I remember too many recruiting battles we lost to FSU going back to the '80's...and at least one we lost under very fishy circumstances. So, I'm not charitable to Bowden. No love lost....I have a long memory.

Actually, kinda funny to see Bobbah do the U.

Actually, the funniest FSU coach was Bill Peterson. I'll have to see if I can find a list of his malapropisms.

It was interesting that Peterson had two star WRs, Fred Biletnikoff and Ron Sellers, who had young brothers who were highly recruited QBs. Both brothers went elsewhere: Ben Sellers went to UF and Bob Biletnikoff went to UM and started for us in 1964. I always thought the two older brothers encouraged the younger brothers to go elsewhere.

But Peterson was a highly quoatable gem--his confused statements were published and republished over the years.

But sorry, no real warmth in me for Bobbah. No hate, but no warmth. Still, give him credit for not pulling a Gator and not boycotting us.

And let's not forget, the original Dade county FSU bag man, Eddie Sapp. He was Bowden's guy in South Florida for many years.

And I got a warm greetings and nice handshake from JoePa the night before the '87 Fiesta Bowl. He actually showed up at the Miami team hotel. Little did I know the terrible secrets he was hiding.

Wasn't his fault. Blame Gary Stevens. But that's a story for another day.

Nobody Loathes the Gators like me...but I met Tebow at a close friends house here in Orlando in 2009...not long after my Daughters passing....Im sure I'll catch crap for what I'm about to say...but thats okay....
You cannot believe how nice...respectful and a joy to talk with, especially after what I went through....I truly was taken aback at his kindness and understanding....You can tell he was raised unbelievably....
