Wouldn't mind Stoops at all for them. It would be 6 years since he coached a college game and the expectations would be so high that he wouldn't have a chance of meeting them before they start calling for his head.

LOL @ ppl scared of this hire but hated on Mark Richt.

What do you think Stoops resume look like if he had played the Canes in that title game?

Is this for real? That would be a home run hire for them.

Friend of mine (a gayterd obviously) sent me this, but I can't verify it independently:

Hopefully this is their Jon Gruden and it blows up in their face LOL

Bob Stoops' name comes up in Gainesville every time they've had a coaching vacancy since Urban Meyer stepped down.

Stoops is very happy with his bank account and the past 22 years he's spend in Norman, Oklahoma where he's built a massive compound.

He also got out of coaching five years ago to be a family man—as his father was a coach who died young and he doesn't want the same fate. He farted around with the Dallas Renegades last year as the face of the XFL and big name Vince McMahon needed for credibility, but it wasn't a real gig.

Cannot see Stoops going back into the profession and attempting to rebuild Florida at this phase of his career, to recruit like a madman and to go all in on a professional he left for personal reasons.

Correct. That is who they've wanted once Spurrier departed for the Skins. Big Game Bob give coach in the XFL before it went belly up. Remains very close with Spurrier. I wouldn't be shocked.

yes, BUT he's had three chances to say yes to the job in the past two decades.

He was approached about the job in 2011, 2014, and 2018. Each time he said "no thanks."

not sure what changes today. could it happen? of course. but I wouldn't bet on it.

Does anyone know why he's been out of coaching since 2016? I think he'd be a good hire because he could likely build a good staff and take on a role similar to Mack at UNC but if I was a Gator, I'd be concerned about whether he's out of touch with the game. It's changed a lot since '16.
