DMoney reported some BOT wanted him gone after MSU. But yeah, you could believe it was to save money if you want to.

But with the amount of money that's allegedly going to be spent, I don't think that was the driving factor.

Does anyone know why he's been out of coaching since 2016? I think he'd be a good hire because he could likely build a good staff and take on a role similar to Mack at UNC but if I was a Gator, I'd be concerned about whether he's out of touch with the game. It's changed a lot since '16.

His dad died on the sideline of a heart attack. He didn’t want to risk the same thing, I guess heart problems run in the family

That is not how aging works.

He had consecutive 11 2 seasons and
multiple double digit wins prior. He was still in his prime from a coaching perspective. He surprised everyone by resigning. Now I agree the gap since he last coached is problematic but would never compare his accomplishments with Richt or Mack. Not even close.

Eh. I see this as a Richt hire for them. Good hire but I’m not sure how much passion he has left. He chose to coach XFL instead of getting back into CFB last year and has been out of the game for a bit.
