Bob Shoop D in action

We've sent blitzes like this over the past 3 years. It looks similar to a blitz where Redwine caused a fumble.

I'm really curious what he's going to do with the combination of our gap philosophy and what coverages we choose behind it.

That 2016 UTK team went 9-4 that yr. I think one of the problems for UTK that yr was they were in a lot of shootouts playing P5 opponents, so I looked up that team.

They played 2 G5 opponents, 1 FCS opponent, and 10 P5 opponents.

When playing P5 opponents, that defense gave up an avg. of 34.3 and they scored an avg of 37 ppg. Defense had D Barnett, J Reeves-Maybin, and Cam Sutton anchoring them. It was actually a solid team. Think Kamara was on that ‘16 squad too. But that defense gave up a lot of points.

I was doing back flip when Simpson was rumored to coming back .. That gap philosophy is dead or should I say “ will be a more discipline” But We are in need of a Norton type players that control his man ... Jon ain’t it...

Feel like this is where the additions of Jess Simpson and T-Rob are going to be vital. In addition to Shoop. I’m happy with the staff changes, mostly because Diaz brought in guys from outside his coaching tree. Guys with experience, that come with their own philosophies, schemes and preferences. Hopefully that translates into different adjustments, game planning and scheming. The best leaders surround themselves with people who don’t think like themselves, in order to get different opinions/approaches, and evolve for the better. We’ll have to wait to see if Manny adapts and evolves.

I'm curious as to how all of these new coaches are going to work together...will they work well considering they hail from different backgrounds?

Bill Walsh said it best, “If we are all thinking alike, no one is thinking.” Miami is not going to take that next step as a program if everyone is thinking like Manny Diaz, not brining any new ideas to the table.
