Blue Chip Ratio - Death

You’re the only one. Booster money trumps all in recruiting. Then, win a shlt ton of NC’s and recruiting gets that much easier. You have kids begging to tap dance for the klan.
You meant “Lap dance.” Not trying to be funny, just ****ed at our underperformance overall.

Depending upon who's math you believe (including transfers or not), we did dip above that 50% blue chip ratio number with some of the transfers included.

The way you have a program that competes for titles is to have that ratio be higher than 50% consistently, year over year. You don't just hit that ratio in one offseason like we did and then all of the sudden you're a contender.

There are outliers in the top 20 like Wisky, Iowa, Boise, UCF, etc...but for the most part, if you've got the talent level at above that 50% blue chip ratio year after year, and other things go your way (facilities, coaching, just plain luck, etc)...then you're in the discussion to compete for the CFB Playoff each season.

We aren't there yet. In order to get there, coaching has to improve, and so does recruiting - which falls on the coaches and the results on the field...which falls on the coaches...you see where this is going. There are other intangibles like academics, recruiting budgets, and (gasp) how engaged your fanbase is and how recruits perceive that...but it really comes down to coaching/development to get better results on the field with what you've got already on the roster, and use those results to attract the top talent.

Very interesting, however this kind of information misses the nuance of recruiting. Every so called 4 & 5 star really aren't bonafide ' Balla's. Coaching matters as much maybe even more. Ex: UCF, Wisconsin, UVA, Utah, etc.

Another example is L. Cager who transfered to UGA. Currently, he is balling out.

Cager balling out???? You watched the one ND game and made that conclusion right???

Let me ask you this, do you think Mike Harley for us is "balling out" this year? Because spoiler alert, he has more catches and yards than Cager this year....Same with Osborn, Brevin, and JT4 is only 6 yards behind him.... **** Mark Pope is only 40 yards behind him, Cager would be 4th currently here.

And don't try the competition schtick either... UGA has played Vandy, Murray State, Ark State, and ND. Not exactly a gauntlet for them either.

Was the point of your post that some 4 and 5* are busts? of course they are, and they get the attention of being busts because they weren't supposed to be, just like a (sarcasm) 2* Ed Reed gets thrown around because he wasn't supposed to be good according to the recruiting sites.

To your second point, of course coaching matters, sure you can win a NC with a half asleep coker at the wheel if your team is the '01 Canes but you rather someone who can maximize your teams strengths and minimize weaknesses, and yes that does mean not asking a havoc of player (chik) eat 19 meals a day to be a space eater, or asking a player (Arthur Brown) to learn some stupid read and react defense when he should just be attacking.

Only complete morons think the blue chip ratio doesn't matter.

Only complete morons THINK that BC ratios are more important than coaching, as it pertains to evaluating/assessing & developing talent. D-Moni's posts highlight this pt as clear as day. Therefore it is retarded for DUMB fans to focus on hoe *** recruiting rankings & BC ratios. Once the coaching part of the equation becomes addressed, the rest will take care of itself. There is a self-regulating mechanism that exists in recruiting. The only teams that are exempt from this rule are teams like Iowa & Wisconsin..

Nope. You have it backwards. Morons think coaching is more important than BCR. There is literally one outlier team in that list. Anyone that can't see that has rocks for brains.

Did someone at 247 steal your girl? I have never seen someone this delusional regarding the rankings before in my life.

It’s worse than I thought. He doesn’t count transfers. So the number would exclude Phillips and Bolden.

He’s counting _signees_. So guys who sign but don’t enroll, or enroll but left the program for one reason or another, are still counted in his metric. That alone tells you something as our actual roster talent does not match our hypothetical roster talent and hasn’t for ages. Injuries, guys who weren’t getting in, guys who left the program for one reason or another. It’s possible all programs experience a comparable rate of attrition of this sort but I doubt it.

I was about to point this out.... As soon as I saw Bud Elliot I knew it was a problem, he couldn't cut it as a lawyer and is now just throwing schtick against the wall.

You just don't get it man, and it's a shame. What i'm saying is..as a fan your main focus should be on whether or not your team is able to properly evaluate/assess & develop talent. Focusing on BC ratios & recruiting rankings while your team has been squandering talent for 15+ yrs makes you look retarded. That's my whole pt

If coaching truly mattered then Bama and teams who have had their coaching staffs raided would be in trouble. Look at Bamas staff and tell me they have a staff of the century. Coaching matters in only a few games a year if at all....it's ALL about the players because they're on the field making plays or not making plays.

Our rosters says we have about an 8-10 win team...lets see where we end up on Jan 1

Is that why..Alabama has won ALL of their National Championships with only 2 coaches? What happened to the other 80+ yrs that they had great players??

This really needs to get through to people at some point. This season my hope was for Miami to win 9-11 games and get on the level of competing with good not great teams like Wisconsin, Michigan State, Michigan, PSU. A number of fans thought those teams were low bars because “this is Miami!”.

I get everyone thinks Miami should recruit top 5-10 classes every year. That’s not reasonable today.

A reasonable expectation would be to just perform at the teams recruiting ranking. This is a top 15-25 in team talent that outside of 2017 gets top 50-75 results.

Until this team performs near its recruiting rankings and blue chip ratio I don’t see the point in whining about not recruiting top 5-10 classes.

We are no better today as a team or a program than FSU or Tennessee, another 2 teams massively underperforming their recruiting rankings. Hopefully by year end this changes.

Until this team plays like a top 25 team and ends seasons ranked I don’t believe getting more blue chips than they have in the past is going to change much.

Development is a way bigger issue today, specifically on the offensive line. It would be eye-opening for a lot of fans to go through all the ranked teams today and see how few good teams start freshmen, redshirt freshmen, or sophomores. It’s a rarity. At Miami fans apparently believe freshmen offensive linemen are all saviors of the program.

DING DING DING!!!! Here's your winner. Not sure how anyone thinks Miami is going to be able to sign top 5 classes when they haven't been to 30 on the field in 15 years.

Miami has played far below their talent level according to recruiting rankings. They may not be recruiting at an "elite" level but they are consistently recruiting at a "very good" level. The results on the field have not matched the results on signing day. Miami doesn't need to sign a top 5 class every year to win 10 games and the garbage *** coastal division. Let's start doing that more than once every twenty years and then we can work on becoming an "elite" recruiting program.

The current roster has the highest blue chip ratio of any team since Shannon was here. Teams with close to 50% blue chip players should not be going 7-6.

Nothing covers for evaluations. ager them right and your talent will exceed its recruiting ranking. Get them wrong and it will lag it.

And evals must match roster needs, system, culture. Not just theoretical value.

Great point. I think as it pertains to the team today the defense evaluations we should trust. The staff might not be out getting all they recruits they (and we) want but the results and development of the players there speaks for itself. Injuries at linebacker and guys leaving early are the only major issues I see on that side of the ball today.

On the offensive side of the ball, there are some very clear evaluation misses from the old staff that I hope we can recover from eventually. Kennedy, Mahoney (left), Brown (left), Reed (left), Milo (left), Dykstra, Herbert, Campbell all apparently suck and aren’t getting better. Boulware leaving early hurts. This team has talent at WR, TE, and RB

It can’t be stressed enough that today Miami is missing 4-8 seniors and juniors who should be playing offensive line and starting or competing to start today.

Beyond that I don’t see the massive talent gulf between this team and top 25 teams.

Of course we want them to be able to evaluate and assess talent, but this isn't the 1990s anymore. The best talent is, the vast majority of the time, blue chips. Of course you will have some random outlier 3 stars, but you aren't going to find an elite team with less than a 50% BCR. Of course our past few coaches have sucked. We all know that. That doesn't mean we should abandon recruiting.

Incorrect. Wallace Wade (yes, the same guy Duke's stadium is named after) won 3 titles. Frank Thomas won 2. Gene Stallings won 1.

I counted 34 4* and 5* kids on the roster shown on this site in the link above. That includes J. Phillips.

Of course it’s true we have underperformed for 15 years.

MIAMI IS NOT IN THE AP TOP 10.... And we still need better coaching along with more 5 stars
