I must admit I find it a little sad that ironman quotes Cway so I of course take the bait and read the comments. Nothing Cway writes bothers me anymore. He is who he is, and because he's so annoying, I'll keep him on block.
But there are a lot of posters on here who have gone full ******. What we saw in the back half of this season is not any different than what we saw when we were going undefeated. Guidry was exposed as a fraud, and his DBs were downright awful. Their collective performance turned what could have / should have been a legitimate championship run into a disappointing 10-3 season capped by another bowl loss.
The outcome is infuriating. But it is knee-jerk reaction to look at that finish and conclude that Mario is trash, or that this team is as bad as the Shannon, Golden and Manny teams. First, the records show that's not true. Second, the roster depth across all the positions shows that's not true. Third, the approach to addressing failure is at an entirely different (better) level of professionalism. Finally, the smart money backing Mario's play is if anything increasing its commitment.
So yes, I can both post being a fan of Mario's while also creating a thread that we need 8 more playoff caliber players in the portal in order to make the playoffs. And yes, I can legitimately believe Mario will be going after all 8 of those players because I know (and so should everyone else on here), that he is self-critical enough to know he needs to get them. And he has the NIL support to go get them.
Mario may not succeed in landing them all. He may still crash and burn in hiring his third DC in 4 years. But I still believe in him. 8 guys is probably the fewest gaps we've had in our roster in 2 decades. So I expect he'll get really close. The QB is obviously the most important. Let's see how it plays out.
