We just don't have the coaching infrastructure in place to develop any of those recruiting classes that Mario has brought in. Seriously take a close look at the Mario high school recruits who do well here. They are mostly all super high floor kids like Francis Mauigoa at RT, Rueben Bain and Mark Fletcher as well as Jordan Lyle, OJ Frederiqueand Elija Lofton. You could say Wesley Bissainthe has been homegrown but how much better has he really become? Riley Williams improved after his first year only to leave. Jaden Wayne, Nyjalik Kelly, Collins Acheamepong, Robert Stafford, Chris Johnson Jr, Kaleb Spencer, Robby Washington, Malik Bryant, Ray Ray Joseph, Cyrus Moss, Jaleel Skinner, Chris Graves, Khamari Rogers, Jaden Harris Markieth Williams and Samson Okunlola. Some of these kids could still develop but only a few are still here.
Compare the above to the successes like Isaiah Horton, Anez Cooper, Ahmad Moten and I'll give you Matt McCoy. The development of kids like Cam Pruitt, Popo Aguirre, Adarius Hayes, Bobby Washington, Justin Scott, Armando Blount, Artavious Jones, Booker Pickett, Elias Rudolph, Marquis Lightfoot, Cole McConathy, Zaquan Patterson, Dylan Day, Damari Brown, Ryan Mack, Isiaah Thomas, Tommy Kinsler, Jojo Trader, Ny Carr and Chance Robinson will be absolutely crucial to Mario's future success but without a complete gutting and rebuilding of the defensive staff, failure will be a foregone conclusion. I also have hope for kids like Trader, Carr and Robinson because Kevin Beard has been one of the very few bright spots in terms of position coaches among this mostly pedestrian staff. Of course Alex Mirabal and Cristobal have done a good job with the OL and I'll say coach Woodiel has done a good job as well. The issue is clearly this defensive staff.
Look at the names above, particularly those I listed first and tell me you don't think this program needs to find a better way to evaluate recruits. There is a huge disconnect here and Mario's analytics based body types bro approach certainly isn't cutting it and don't even get me started on the QBs.
