Blake James gets extended to 2023

Can't complain with this so much. Football and Basketball are in good hands. Who knows with Baseball? He has raised alot of money, got the IPF and the adidas deal.

Because the work of an AD can be directly attributed solely to the performance of the program in any given year? WTF is this?

The AD's job is to have successful athletic programs. James had a big bag and went out and get Richt. If Richt can take us over the hump then it was a good hire, if not then it probably wasn't.

The problem I have, again, is attributing it to any given year. It's like the president and the economy. There's only so much they can REALLY do, and even at that, it usually does not have an immediate impact.

James did everything right with Richt and that is pretty clear at this point. What if we have a rash of injuries? A major suspension or two? Is that Blake James' fault? Nothing about James will be proven or disproven this year short of winning national titles in all three sports or completely bombing in all three. There's WAY too much gray area to make that kind of statement.

You also say "big bag" like Richt is one of the top-5 paid coaches in CFB, and it's not even close.

Hoops with 0 Titles is more important than Baseball with 4 Titles??....Not to mention a former Coach who made the sport what it is today (Fraser).....That's so Stupid that I'm Stupifed....

For the long term health of the ENTIRE athletic department, basketball is significantly more important than baseball. A dominant baseball program does nothing for the finances of the athletic department. A competitive basketball program leads to a significant cash infusion for everyone. Never mind the fact, that is easier to win in basketball, due to the fact that you aren't fighting with one hand tied behind your back, thanks to scholarship allocation rules. There's a reason why football and basketball drives the bus in regards to the athletic department, those are the sports that make it possible for the rest of the sports to exist.

Baseball may not be the **** sport, but if Gino ***** the bed and drags the program down even further, that is all on Blake. And it would take away from some of the good things he has done overall.

This is stupid ******* logic. Even if you think basketball and football are more important, a successful baseball program is more profitable and better for the school overall.

Not even close, look at the actual financials. Baseball breaks even more often than not, it's filler programming for TV networks, so you don't even get to attribute TV dollars to baseball's popularity. The tournament units given out to teams are significantly higher for basketball, compared to basketball, due to how the tv deals work.

I'd say he's the luckiest guy in the world, but we've all seen his wife.

Basically the basketball coach had to beg for the job and has then been left to run with it and turn that programme around.

Meanwhile Mark Richt fell into his lap and James has got the **** out of the way and let Richt have what he wants.

Easiest job in the world.

I’m a Richt fan but I agree with you on this.

Seems the general consensus is that this was a good move. I wholeheartedly agree, but not strictly from the perspective of the performance and changes we've seen. Blake James is a Miami Hurricane. His relationship to the program dates to 1995, when things were dreary. He's young, he's hungry, and he understands The U, the city, and the relationship between the two. He is also stability for the program. In a way that we've never really had properly, and in the best manner since Paul Dee, who was a mixed bag at best. He's not some douchebag Hocutt (who was an absolutely atrocious hire) or Eichorst, who just used Miami to get a better-paying gig. James gets it, has proven as much, and the Board trusts him at this point. Securing him is a great move for the program as a whole.

He has a couple major challenges in the next few years:

1) How patient will he be with Gino?
2) Can he put up the money to keep the key assistants (survey says so far, so good)?
3) How much time does Larranaga have left, and what happens there? The basketball program has FINALLY gained some traction and the next hire is absolutely crucial.

Considering that Gino's day is the most influential member of the BOT when it comes to sports, Gino is not his baby, at least not entirely, This will be difficult to navigate.

As to Larrañaga, i think he has 3-5 years. Frank Martin is, IMO, the future basketball coach of the Canes. Can't imagine any better guy for the job when it opens up.

Agreed on both points. But if Gino is not getting the job done, even pops is going to understand he'll need to go. The baseball program cannot stay at the state it's been the last couple years.

IPF being built. Certain coaches getting raises. Corches who won’t recruit being shown the door. I’m good with it. Like the direction we’re going

Shown the door. Right. Definitely not stolen by saban.

We may be happy with who we replaced him with, but don't pretend we showed him the door.

He's ****ed up baseball, but football and basketball are more important.

Eh, he inherited baseball in an "as is" state. How the program progresses under DiMare, and how he handles it if it doesn't is the only fair way to judge him there. And, even then, given the rather connected nature of the new guy, it will be a long process.

Being held hostage by FIU:

▪ In a separate conversation, he said nothing is imminent with regard to naming rights to Marlins Park – he and the owners are still surveying the market – and said “everyone would like” for the UM-FIU 2019 football game to be at Marlins Park, though he added that FIU hasn’t informed the Marlins of a final decision.

FIU gets to pick the venue for that game but FIU’s stadium is off the table, according to UM – which leaves Marlins Park and Hard Rock Stadium as the logical options.

LMFAO at Frank "Hothead" Martin EVER getting the Miami job. Never mind the fact that he's been crooked THROUGHOUT his career, he's also a lawsuit or two waiting to happen. I doubt Miami would hire that guy, especially seeing that he's not an elite coach. Look at his career record, he isn't killing it out there, and that's at schools in which there are significantly more resources available. Miami would most likely look toward a young up and coming in the mid major ranks, or if the money and timing is right, a guy from the NBA who wants a little more stability.
