Blake James Comments on Shalala

I highly recommend you guys head on over to the WEZ and read the post that Vinn put up earlier today as to the real reason the Hobbit is leaving.

Pretty eye opening. I know the administration *** kissers like bomb won't like it, but a good read nonetheless.

Let's hope they make a good hire who is sympathetic to athletics cause we're a sleeping giant. Get a good staff in here and this ship can get turned around quickly.

Get Golden out of here and let's get moving back in the right direction.

Blake slicker than snot on a doorknob.

If as much BS came out his rear end as comes out of his mouth, he'd have already siht himself to death while praising Golden.

Job qualification: Lie and hold a straight face.

Cliffs notes?

An independent study of the entire operation was done a year ago by a company that does similar work for large corporations (he specifically mentioned Disney)

Let's just say the findings were not good for Shalala or her right hand man. You need to go over there and read it for yourself.

Bottom line she is being forced out. All was nowhere near as rosy as idiots like bomb would have you believe.

+1

She was a blessing to the U, and she will be missed. Those little shoes are going to take some big feet to fill. From the Medical campus, to undergraduate academics, to the incredible and unmatched capital improvements to football and athletics and her passion for our teams, she's the best President the U has ever know. Thank you for your service, Donna.

Here's his initial post:

WEZ- GIVE YOURSELVES A ROUND OF APPLAUSE
I knew something was brewing when my phone started blowing up at 6:45 this morning. I was driving across the Alley headed to Naples and I had to pull over and compose myself. After deliriously dancing amongst the alligators and turkey hawks, I decided to fap into the swamp grass because I had to relieve myself somehow.

Anyway, after many phone calls and not much work done this is what I can share(for now).

About a year or so ago, the University did a employment culture consultation with the folks that run Disney. They brought in HR people to conduct a lengthy review of the workplace culture at UM. Needless to say the results were bad for Shalala and the brass. Upper management was hammered on cronyism, inefficiency, wasteful spending, incompetence and just about everything else you could imagine. Quite a bit was directed at Pasqual Goldschmidt, who was Donna's hand picked stooge to run the Med School campus. That was the beginning of her end. The bleeding of money, bad decisions, theft and corruption were rampant and the employees let it be known. In April, the findings were made know to UM and the BOT's and that was when the ball started rolling. She was now on thin ice and it didn't help with Norman Braman going public in the Herald with some damning accusations as well.

I have been given permission by my BOT contact- to also shed some light from the other hot button issue, which was the athletic stuff. When the Golden/PSU incident occurred there was a fracture in the upper echelon at the U. Like I mentioned during that week, there were folks at UM that were scouring message boards and were shocked at the vitriol. I mean they were stunned. They had no idea of the deep rooted hate and disgust for Donna and her posse. Since then, certain folks have kept up with this site and others from time to time. But this site in particular has been tagged as a troublesome spot. Thanks to all of you who finally saw the real root of our problems. I nudged him to read some of the true fans feelings. He wasn't laughing FWIW.

Now, this site didn't cause Donna to retire. But it did cause her some unwanted attention and through the winter and spring the word kept getting back that the natives were restless and not just calling for Golden's head but there was also a small but growing call for her to fire up her broom and ride off.

I can tell you now that your voices were heard. There are too many recent alums that have soured on her and with the calls for ticket renewals being met with "not until Donna is gone" or "not until major changes are made" that was also being noted. That alone would not have made much of a difference but combined with an outright employee revolt and a fan base that is looking for blood, the mountain was growing.

She wasn't forced out but she has been losing support both inside and outside of the University. She could see the writing.

Hope to have more in the coming weeks/months. As great as I feel today, I am cautious about the direction we take going from here. The BOT's lean heavy toward the academic side, while other BOT's that don't have a much clout like Kosar, ARod, Jorge Perez are wanting to open the check book for the AD.

The key vote to look for is Richard Fain. The BOT will most likely go in whichever direction he wants. Start sending him your thoughts.

She was great for academics, terrible for athletics. Hopefully the school hires someone that understands you can have both, great athletics and great academics.

How can this guy say a resurgence when we had a National Championship team her first year in, and now we are irrelevant? Smh.

This guy...

I'm sorry you guys are not seeing the bigger picture here. Her personnel hires for football may have been sub par but her running and modernizing of the university have been second to none. All of us alumni can agree that our degrees worth has significantly increased as she has championed the expansion of facilities and the more stringent acceptance criteria over the past 5-6 yrs.

You guys fail to realize she is a university president, not a football team president.

Everyone *****ing about the OB doesn't remember any of the reasoning for it being torn down or that the city of Miami owned and maintained it. Moving to sun life puts us in line with facilities in the best schools in the nation.

The only thing that hasn't happened while Donna has been here is more football national championships. Every single other thing that could happen to this university positively (disregard Nevin for a second) has happened under her watch. Her graduates are reaping the benefits of that.

My degree is worth the same it was in 1998 when I earned it. Unless your degree says Harvard, Yale, Duke, or Stanford; your degree is pretty much about the same as any other degree. What people think about when they hear or see UMiami is (was) good football teams.

At my new job with the Project On Government Oversight (POGO), a government watchdog, I have continued to study the cozy relationships between physicians and corporations. I also observed as Nemeroff left Emory for a new job at the University of Miami which has a medical school operating under financial strain. But why would this school snatch up a physician with such a history?

According to new emails and other materials shown to me, UM officials had serious concerns about Nemeroff’s history of ethical blunders. However, these emails suggest that Nemeroff’s perceived ability to raise money trumped those concerns. At one point while negotiating with UM for a job, Nemeroff even dangled the possibility of a new funder for the school if he was hired. These emails imply that, despite new federal rules, the public must remain vigilant to ensure that medicine is practiced with the highest regard for ethics and patient safety.

Officials at UM did not respond to detailed and repeated questions about the emails, which include communications by UM President Donna Shalala, who is now facing public scrutiny over a separate ethics scandal involving UM’s football program.

At the end of 2008, Emory took action: Dr. Nemeroff would not be reinstated as chair nor would he be allowed to submit grants to the NIH for two years. He was expected to cooperate with any investigation and would only be allowed to serve on the boards of only four companies with compensation for each limited to $10,000 annually.

Finally, Nemeroff could no longer give` promotional talks, nor solicit gifts from industry.

That’s when the University of Miami entered the picture.
But Nemeroff sweetened the deal by letting Goldschmidt know that a potential donor had stepped forward to support the Psychiatry Department if he relocated to UM.

In an email to Nemeroff, Dr. Goldschmidt seemed barely able to control himself. “Superexciting the news about the donor! Thanks for getting us the info, I am, and I know you are, looking forward to getting beyond these issues….”

“Both the [National Institute of Mental Health] and Emory have cleared him of illegal activities,” wrote William O’Neill, Miami’s Dean of Clinical Affairs. He added that Nemeroff was cleared to receive federal research funding. “His ‘wrongdoing’ consisted of a lack of reporting of substantial industry consulting fees.

The reference to a letter concerned an email sent by President Shalala that day to the UM Community. In her email, Shalala laid out new conflicts of interest rules at UM to increase the integrity of medical research and place the school as a national leader. “That integrity is the very bedrock of our institution and the foundation for the trust that students, patients, academic colleagues, and society place in us.”

Three days later, the UM sent a press release announcing that Dr. Nemeroff had been hired as chair of the Psychiatry Department. No mention was made of the ethical controversies clouding his pas

From Forbes article 2 years ago, but this legitimizes what others have said.
And stop with all of the "My degree is worth more" nonsense...

loss of he OB was inexcusable. A cultural icon that should of been renovated and lived on. Only outsiders with no ties to the area could have pulled the trigger on that disasterous decision.

She still aint gonna come scissor you tonight Bethany, you can take your tongue out of her *******.

Even this is negligible. The medical campus is by all accounts a disaster financially. School rankings are political in nature as well. Who really gives a **** if they go to the 38th ranked school, or the 47th or the 80th. Education is a ******* racket these days anyway, and that troll is the Gnome Queen of disgraceful political practice. People should be ashamed of supporting this dyke if they consider themselves UM supporters.

This. She's a carpet (munching) bagger, who came down here to put her hand in the pocket of a University and shunned the very community and foundation which it was built on.

She and her crony cast of characters used the U as a marketing ploy for their own political and personal agendas. ...and wasted untold millions in the process.

She was great from the perspective of academics and fundraising for the schools academia. She hasn't done squat as far as raising funds for the Athletic department. Whoever says she has is lying out they ***.

Hopefully we get a President that knows how to stay the **** out of the way and hire a top notch AD and let them do their thing.

i wonder how the new improvements to the athletic facilities got built and that field house?

You got any idea how much Miami gets from the ACC? Not much less than SEC members get. The U seems to use that money for other things - and there's no telling what kind of coaching staff we could get if we put some of that money into coaching.

Donna and crew seem to be dealing a bit shady - which is much easier the more money that's rolling in.
