Blake James Circus Show Timeline wrt Zo

Both Flake and Manure don’t want Zo, but also don’t want to catch the heat for not wanting Zo. This is rich.
They know if he is brought in their time in Coral Gables is limited. In the same sense if they don’t bring him in & we suck ballz & ****z again they are both fücked anyway. Rock & a hard place for those pathetic losers. Misery loves company, Im pretty stoked that they will be removed within the calendar year

@Andrew said it best.

Blake and Manny seem to be wanting a Chief of Staff (glorified assistant, IMO)

The fans want a General Manager of Football (this has some power).

No one at UM wants to erode their control/power. OTOH, fans don't give a squirt of **** about Blake or Manny protecting their turf. We just want to win. I believe the position of General Manager of Football would give us a chance at that. Chief of Staff doesn't mean ***** to me.

Has anyone bothered to inform the University President on this? Does he have any thoughts on the matter?

It is clear where I've added my opinion but the timeline is exactly how things have gone down so far. I just updated the original post to include an abridged timeline without any opinion.

Good stuff. So where do we go from here? Are things still in motion?

From what I have heard...no. This would be something brand new. Understandable that Manny would not want to have to give up powers that every other CF HC has.
Exactly, my question was to make that point. This is a brand new position that Zo wants which is why Blake could have been seen as an innovator.

Fire Blake and Strawely.... hire A.Hughsmith as AD , then he makes decision on CMD next year

I guess the question that keeps popping in my mind is why do we need this new innovative position? If Blake was doing his job we wouldn't need a GM of Football. If he's not doing his job, then fire him and hire an AD with a better grasp of running a football program. I completely understand that something higher up than an offensive coordinator needs to change, but if things are so broken and the BOT is bent out of shape, fire Blake, offer HIM a role as Chief of Staff in charge of Fundraising and tell him to kick rocks if he doesn't want it. Then do a national search for a qualified AD. Like every other university on the planet manages to do. If Zo wants in at that time then you make a position for him, but not while there's already an AD and HC in place. It's just a weird situation on paper. Or on a message board.

Because this is UM and rather than address the obvious issue (e.g. bringing in a new AD), we'd rather prolong this process and/or waste more money. It also demonstrates that neither the AD nor the HC can handle the major functions of their position.

There is only one obvious solution, obvious to everyone but the BOT, to fire Blake and we need to bring in a competent AD with passion and autonomy.

This whole BS with a "chief of staff" doesn't address the actual/material issue.

Please note: I am not against a position like this, per se, but I don't think we're addressing the actual issue.

Blake James is under contract and is not going to be fired this year. Alonzo wants in. He's a legend and you find a way to make it work. That's the bottom line.

I'm seeing a ton of confusion and misinformation. Here's the bottom line:

-Zo expresses interest (multiple times) in UM football role with certain power level
-Blake expresses interest in making something happen bc he knows his neck is on the line and his future at Miami is tied to Manny but he is also afraid of how terrible he will look as an AD if Zo is brought in to run the football program because the number one most important sports program that any AD is in charge of is football by far
-Blake gets Manny involved knowing Manny will express reservations about Zo's power level. Manny mentions these reservations (as would any HC) but also thinks the role could work in a support / same level as Manny type of Chief of Staff role or in a role where Manny only has to interact with Zo (and not Zo and Blake) regarding football matters
-Blake goes back to Zo and throws Manny under the bus about the role having to be Chief of Staff because Manny thinks it would be unfair to report to two people and any other structure would be unheard of so Zo&Co leak this causing hysteria
-Blake and Manny try to appease the fans with the Rhett OC hire which wasn't going to be leaked or announced until early next week. Leaked Friday and announced today (rare to have announcements like this) and some important people realized the circus distraction show Blake was trying to put on.
-Important people (including at least one BOT member but it was not a BOT meeting) demand a meeting with Blake, get it yesterday, and Blake holds firm (trying to save his own ***) but promises even more changes to Manny's staff and other traditional mechanisms to improve team, important people not satisfied and Zo&Co release more leaks
-Blake goes to Manny with updates and Manny realizes he's the fall guy and does a total reversal knowing he's in a lose lose situation that he created for himself with that abortion of a first year and because he rather have Zo come in, deflect some of the blame for year 2 performance and ultimately help him get Miami back to greatness, Manny leaks

You couldn't make this **** up if you wanted to and it really shows how inept Blake is. What should Blake have done? Told Zo he's hired on the spot, will have full authority of the football program but must report to him still (which Zo would have accepted as long as he had full power over Manny and staff), and been crowned as an innovator in college sports.

Some people are now saying Blake is trying to work something out with Zo to save face on this circus clown show. I have no info on this.

You guys have no idea how imperative it is to keep the pressure on Blake, Manny, BOT members, the media, etc via Twitter and all other social channels. They are hearing the pitchforks.

Abridged timeline version without my opinion:

-Zo expresses interest in UM football senior role, Zo leaks
-Blake speaks to Zo and expresses mutual interest
-Blake involves Manny, Manny expresses reservations
-Blake tells Zo role will not come with power level Zo is expecting based on Manny's reservations, Zo leaks
-Blake and Manny announce OC hire early
-Important people demand and have meeting with Blake and demand Zo hiring, Blake refuses but promises more staff changes, important people leak
-Blake speaks to Manny about more staff changes, Manny leaks reversal on Zo
Zo leaks him going with Mario rumor to cause backlash against the people who he perceives have screwed him

Nice to know your a insider..can u do something about the leaks

the leaks could have all come from A BOT member that Blake spoke with. Nwither you not I know who leaked and what their motivations were.
I'm not a true insider but I know who has leaked and their motivations.

Do you anticipate the "struggle " behind the scenes to continue? or will the "important people" involved go back to their regular lives and forget how angry they are in the next week? Seems to me the billboard is very important to keep this going right now..... And all these threads and posts going public on social media keep it in the forefront.

Who cares if he is under contract? What do you think he has a billion dollar buyout?

I think you could do both things. Miami definitely needs a new AD. That is indisputable. But you could also have a Director of Football Ops. The innovative model would be innovative for CFB, but pretty much standard practice for professional teams that have a Team President, GM, then Head Coach in that pecking order.

Yes, I know the counter arguments-
1. no one else does it that way
2. No high profile coach would come here if that's the model

So here's the thing, when Miami last won a championship, it was before the era where ESPN was paying $8 billion to broadcast a few games.

CBS currently pays the SEC $55 million per year for broadcast rights. You know how much it is speculated Disney will pay the SEC for the rights? 350-400 million PER YEAR.

College football not only is making professional league levels of money, but now "student athletes" are going to be getting paid as well. Innovation would be to be the 1st university to recognize this and setting up the football operations to function like professional teams.

So what about big name coaches? Miami isnt going to outbid a Michigan or a Notre Dame for a coach like Urban Meyer. So then we settle for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th tier candidates (remember- everyone's favorite alternative to Diaz was Bootch Davis). Now the flavor of the month is Cristobal.

I think the model that turns Miami back into national champions isnt trying to be a poor man's Alabama. It's by doing what Miami did in the 80s and hiring innovators (esp Schnelly in terms of recruiting, Erickson and JJ for scheme). Those innovators will have success, then jump to the NFL. That's fine. If Miami is setup like a pro organization, then it should be plug and play. Scouting, recruiting and football operations already setup. Next guy walks in and just has to coach football. It becomes the proving grounds for the next crop of NFL head coaches. Miami would become "the school" for innovative coaches (especially coordinators) that don't want to deal with all the schmoozing and recruiting aspects of college ball. Those dudes are tailor made for the NFL.

Here's a perfect example- Joe Brady. LSU will pay him to be the full time OC. Maybe the NFL hires him as an OC. He's not going to be a P5 coach or NFL coach next year. So let's say instead he has an opportunity to make 3 million as the HC of Miami, where all he has to do is coach. Recruit evals are already complete since the scouting dept is run by the GM. That would be attractive to a lot of young innovative coaches. Would Saban be interested? No. But he wouldn't have been interested anyways.

Miami could offer other unique opportunities that would help players take advantage of the new rules for making money of their likeness. You know who HATES that idea? Dabo and Saban. Miami could be the complete opposite and embrace that, and have a group dedicated towards helping players find opportunities to market themselves and make $$$. 5 star recruits can answer the question themselves- is it better to be rich (taking bags from the bagman) or rich and famous (with Miami helping them market themselves on everything from Instagram to TV commercials?)

You not only assumed what happened but you also assumed why it happened.

Last, it seems as if the term "Chief of Staff" is confusing people. A chief of staff is basically an assistant manager. They would either report to Manny or Blake, but would not have a final say. For example, Mike Mulvaney is currently Chief of Staff to President Trump. Mulvaney runs the Whitehouse staff but Trump is still the boss and Mulvaney does not have hire or fire capabilities. What UM fans are asking for is a General Manager of Football that reports to the President or BOT. This position would basically be the Athletic Director of Football.
Thank you for addressing this. But it's been made clear all over media lately. Regardless of the pay this is basically a demotion for Zo. And honestly, due to the fact that Blake has effed up these coaching here's so often, I think the BOT has decided tog et involved. I'm not gonna lie, there plenty of money being made, and Basketball has helped in that department over the last few years with Coach L, but even that has taken a hit with the recent investigations. Regardless, $$ is flowing. Now the football program had actually been just enough of a sore eye, that it's finally time for someone above Blake to get his *** in line, and because he thinks he still has all the power he's literally fighting this thing WITH Zo.

EVERYBODY that doesn't make all the important decisions, thinks Zo needs to be here and involved. So Blake is holding on to that last thread, instead of biting the bullet and letting go.

The bad parts is, he absolutely doesn't realize that if he let's Zo have the position he needs and wants, and what we all want....than he literally has nothing to lose, at this point. He's either going to look like a Rockstar for the hire, and can take all the credit. OR, he can say I told you so, still have $ in the bank (because the BOT basically paid for Zo), and fire every ******* body and go hard after Mario. This dude is so stupid, he doesn't realize he can play this chess game for at least 3 to 4 more years and still make bank. While doing nothing but trying to make fans happy!
