Blake James: Al Golden "perfect person" to coach Hurricanes

“That starts with me. Everybody’s got to be accountable,” he said Monday. “We all have to look in the mirror, take care of business, watch film and don’t make any excuses."

I'm not a Golden homer and that Louisville game was pretty inexcusable to lose after watching that game and realizing that Louisville is average and we were clearly more talented, and lots of to change, mainly offensively. My point is, the quote that I took from it above, that's the first time I've actually heard him blame himself and/or the rest of the coaching staff for a lose.
Still think he should be gone sooner then later, but if he can somehow turn this around come Nebraska time, and by the power of the Gods beat them, and somewhat convincingly, I may give him a chance to redeem himself for the rest of the season.
Point is, to me at least, he's finally not blaming, the cloud, the youth of the roster, or penalties, or the sky being blue for problems, he finally blamed himself and his coaching staff, so personally, I wanna see what kinda balls he's got to make changes here.

This man has no experience with and knows nothing about building a great football program. He is a a big part of the problem and I am convinced will compound the situation with another bad hire. He is an enabler at this point. Any serious big time AD would be furious with the last 9 games, it simply inexcusable under any circumstances. Amazingly, I truly believe this guy is happy with the direction of the program right now. Let that sink in.

He is still hiding under the cloud. It is an utter fabrication at this point. We still had the highest rated recruiting classes in the division the last three years - while under the effin cloud. Yet we cannot sniff winning this **** poor devision.

We have no chance with is admin and coaching staff. None.

Hopefully this is just him saying what he needs to say, and not what he actually believes.

Normally, the dreaded vote of confidence is short and sweet. That was too detailed imo. He believes that crap.
Don't think so. Think it's 50/50

This part worries me:

“He’s the perfect person for this job,” James said. “I think it’s important for everyone to recognize that while the NCAA sanctions are no longer lingering out there, we’re still dealing with the ramifications of being under that cloud for over two years and that’s the reality. It’s important for everyone to look at that.

Coach speak or AD speak ore half the time bs, half the time true. I never believe any of it in either direction, it's as much spin as any republican or democrat.

Hey Blake, I happen to know this guy. Pretty good guy. Decent coach. Put a few guys in the league in his day. Anyway, I hear he is looking to get back into coaching and has some experience with the Miami area. I bet you could even get him for relatively cheap.

His name is Butch Davis. Take a page from the Louisville AD and just have coffee with him. Check in on him and his family. Make sure he is in a good place mentally. See how he is doing. And just like the Louisville AD. It isn't about football. Noooo... definitely not about football.

I still don't think the seat gets hot until after next year... the sad thing is, we were all worried about the defense assuming the offense would be OK... It's yet to be seen if the D has improved, but it won't matter if the offense can't do ****.

Well my seat at sunlifeless stadium is going to get hot this season. Frankly I have better things to do.

If people would take a stand, it might force his hand.

^That rhymed.

good god we are in trouble if he really believes what he said.

“When you see guys like [linebacker] Denzel Perryman and [tight end] Clive Walford opting to stay for their senior years, it just reconfirms for me that these guys are recognizing how much they’re developing as players and that’s why they’re staying,” James said.

Huh? players deciding to stay b/c they didn't get the draft grade they wanted is a positive for coach Golden?

“At the same time, we’re getting better as a program. There are so many things we can look at with that game on Monday night and say, ‘If this went this way,’ those different types of things. As I look at it and I do my evaluation, we’re getting better as a program.

we are getting better as a program???? I'm too lazy to look up the stats but hasn't the defensive ranking got progressively worse every year since Golden has been here? Didn't the offense take a huge step back from year 2 to year 3? what progress is Blake seeing? attendance? AP ranking? Division titles?

y'all was right, Golden set the bar so low that giving up 31 points to a louisville team with a new QB and his best WR out is now seen as defensive improvement. Brightest point of this season is when the 2nd 30 for 30 gets released

That AD's response was the biggest piece of crap that night, other than the coaching performance.

Golden sold us on continuity after the Rustled Bowl. We kept our whole staff; they lost their entire staff. Louisville lost a lot more to the draft than we did. We got our best offensive player back in Duke Johnson; they lost their best offensive player in DeVante Parker.

Rustled Bowl: 36-7
Monday: 31-13

You're telling me that we only made an 11 point improvement? The AD needs to recognize how much we suck. I really hope he doesn't believe what he's saying, or he won't be able to take himself seriously. Save your credibility, AD.

So Gorlden would tell you we are trending up.

I can't remember a time when an AD hasn't backed his guy. If the losses keep coming I would suspect his answers will get shorter and shorter with regards to Al.

So what do you want him to say publicly with 11 regular season games left? The guy was interviewed and he said what he had to say which is standard AD speak at this point in the year. James didn't even hire Golden. Look at Florida. Jeremy Foley still supports Wil Muschamp. Is there a bigger dead man walking then Muschamp? All this will play out in Miami.
