Blake James: 36,000 season tickets sold. Less than 1000....

A decent coach makes a different. I still wanted Butch but Mark was great pick.

Jesus Christ, let it go dude

I was all in on Butch coming back, and thought he'd be the best hire possible. However, after about 5 minutes of thinking after Richt was hired, I was able to clearly see he was, far and away, the best hire we could have made. Butch would've been better than nearly everyone else on our list, some by a landslide, but getting a coach like Mark Richt is the best thing that could have happened for UM.

butch wouldn't get half the stuff richt was able to get down here. no IPF with butch, no Kool, no elite play caller (SEE FSU Richt), etc. richt runs that program and gets everything he wants immediately. getting an established guy like that without any NCAA question marks was the only move to be made.

I don't think season tickets sales were the problem. People not using their tickets is what showed up on TV.

I agree and I always take the numbers reported with a big grain of salt. Prior to last season we heard ticket sales and donations were up. Does anyone recall the number of season ticket holders at that time?

they finished the year with 29k STH.

The fact that Butch was responsible for recruiting the players for all but one of our NC teams, makes it impossible to completely do that -- but seeing Mark hoist the NC trophy will do it. I do think Mark has to get a little nasty to get there. Butch came nasty. All that said, the minute UGA fired Mark, there was only one outcome going to happen.

Yes - amazing recruiter but no one wants him ----- this is a sign. He has sat out longer than Larry Coker did ?

True. Perhaps there is indeed a hidden NCAA prohibition attached to him. I have never thought Butch to be a great "coach" on the field. He clearly however when at THE U, capable beyond any other of identifying, recruiting, developing and forming a series, not one of two but a series of superior players far beyond anything anyone has even done. Not the Bear, Bud, Bob, Bobbie, Knute, Nick, Urban or any other have come close. Truthfully, I doubt Butch could have done this anywhere but here, at THE U. It is that combination that I believe was the critical mass for the explosion we were.

Once Mark got fired, Butch had no chance. He was high risk, high reward. Mark is very low risk and, so far, low reward. Hopefully, being back here will ignite Mark's Cane dna and he will become the monster he has not been. We will know by the end of 3 months. My expectations are Mark will be more successful this year than Butch would have been because he is a better field coach. It is the thought of 30 1st round picks 3 or 4 years from now that makes Butch shine.

Mark certainly had great leverage with the school. We were in rebellion and he was the only pick who could quiet the cry BBB -- which he did. Butch was a beggar and would have not gotten IPF I agree. I like Kool a lot but the rest of the staff is questionable -- mostly UGA retreads. Butch had a staff that produced four NFL HCs(granted only one remains a HC) plus others who are tops in there fields. Until we see results, staff is not a plus for Mark(except Kool). I have one question for you, what would your expectations be for this year if Brad was not here? The combination of Mark and Brad gives us a chance to eat anyone in one game. Butch could not do that, but Mark without Brad could not either.

It is fun to talk the Butch stuff, but Mark is our coach and Butch is finished. Be clear about one thing, Mark's previous success is NOT good enough for THE U. He must do much better than he has. This is not uga or Tally. There will be no 10 years to win a NC. He must exceed his history to succeed here. Personally, I was thought JJ should have been on the hot seat after three years of losing Bowl Games and blowing TWO NCs. Imagine if he had not won that 4th year. "Can't win the big one" would have been his tombstone. Anyone happy with the Heat now? This is a harsh town.
