Blake Baker on Joe Rose Monday, 7am

It should however help with things such as field possession and time of possession which alone would help any defense. How many times in the last 2 years did we see quick 3 and outs and until last year our punts would go less than 30 yards? It could also help making a team one dimensional. If we go up quick, hard for a team to stick to its gameplan.
Our TOP last year was 30 minute per game. Hardly a reason for our problems.

My thing Is he was being recruited to run the def at LSU so if they reaching out after the season we had what does that tell you? They could have anyone on def as a coach but they picked him to come do an interview. The man has some skills he just got to get the weapons and the guys have to understand the def. I seen to many broke plays bc the def didn't do there assignment period. Just wait when they start hitting on all cylinders its going to be fast playin
He’s gotten nfl looks already too. He has a in for a job with the panthers. Not dc but LB coach.

Rousseau actually excelled rushing from O tech. People don’t realize that even in the early 90’s we would run 3 man fronts on 3rd downs at times.

GR had an injured back in camp which caused him to play coming off the bench to start the year.

The Ragone over Brooks vs GT is still a head scratcher.

Having LB’s healthy and more depth at safety should really help ST. Last year I remember seeing a lot of walk ons playing.

Even though we are running spread, I think it will benefit the D. Our 3rd down offence was one of the worst in the country. Also how many bone head turnovers did we have in our own end.

I have a feeling we will be much better than what people are expecting this year. We lost so many close games last year with a trash Enos O and no kicking game.

And Dan Enos was going to be running Alabama's offense lat year.

I'm not sold on Baker 100% just yet. He's not the biggest problem we have though and he can get/has gotten better. It's not like we can't fall back on Manny.

I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt from last year. Need to see better situational play calling and continue to improve on sub-packages. I also need to see our secondary take another step because they let us down a lot last year.

I keep hearing this but I'm not buying any of it. A high scoring offense may result in more wins, but the defense is still the defense. Until he changes things, he'll allow other teams to hang around until it bites us. The stats don't matter, he has to do better on money downs and get the defense off the field.
Teams were hanging around because we could not score. We could never take anybody out of their offensive game plan. Central Michigan is a perfect example. It takes its toll on any defense. Score points take a two-touchdown lead and let's play downhill.

Yup, three and out then punting from our own 30 isn't a recipe for success.

I THINK ENOS WOULDVE BEEN BETTER AT ALABAMA THEN HERE.

It’s a reason why a lot of high scoring offenses still lose plenty of games... that’s bc they can score 50 but the defense is going to give up 57. High tempo offenses get on the field and off the field either scoring or punting the fastest wearing the defense out. Most teams don’t have the depth of talent on defense (including Miami) to not get worn down defensively due to the speed of the game. And an injury anywhere on defense will just make it that much more of a nightmare scenario.

Also we have to keep in mind that Manny doesn’t have any game day experience as a HC over a spread high tempo offense and balancing that with his defense. Manny got out coached against FIU and Central Michigan... The idea that we are going to be blowing out teams 60-10 year 1 is definitely drinking the Kool aid.
We scored 17 points against Central Michigan and won. Central Michigan had 248 yards of total offense. It was 16-3 FIU going into the 4th quarter. We had 3 flipping points against FIU.

The last time Miami's offense was that embarrassing Kary Baker was running the wishbone.

Geez, if we had a kid who could kick we win 9 games last year even with that abortion of an offense.

I am not defending Blake Baker, but a competent offense and we win 10-games on this schedule. How many high powered spread offenses are we playing this year?

He had his bumps and bruises as a DC last year but im willing to give him a second chance. Training wheels are off now. He knows hes not at La Tech anymore. This is UM and if the D aint clickin on all cylinders he will hear it loud and clear from the fan base and former players.

Our best players are going to be on the bench like last year while we see walk ons and true freshman get abused getting equal reps just for the sake of “rotating to build depth bro”.... fckn clowns the only thing I like about this defense is the players.

/ ok I’m done moping had to get it out of my system for the week.
Big facts, mfs will rather play a average jr or sr than the better younger player

sh*t crazy

only at UM

This statement right here counters your assertion. You're right, the defense can't take anyone out of their game plan. And how do you suppose you get a two touchdown lead if the defense never gets of the field, … turnovers? Turnovers help but they're streaky. You can't rely on them particularly against the better teams (with better QBs).
