Blake Baker on Joe Rose Monday, 7am

I thought the staff looks at the site. You’d think they know that Baker is on the hot seat w the fan base, and there are certain things that will set us off to call for his head... Ryan Ragoo being one of them, not starting Roche and Phillips till December, playing Roche at NG, and 11 man blitzes all the time are a others to name a few. If he’s really talking about Ragoo as a standout already, he really must be dense. Nothing against ragoo, but we are in deep Shiit if he’s our standout.

S: He said Gurvan has had an unbelievable camp and that all 3 of the safeties could start anywhere in the country.

DE: Nothing shocking, but he was raving about the DE combo, especially Phillips. Sounds like Cameron Williams will be the 4th DE, but said good things about Chantz as well.

DT: 3 are shining above the rest: Nesta, Ford, and Miller. The younger DTs are battling for time.

LB: likes the depth as players have returned from injury and said the unit has improved over the course of camp.

Thanks for the recap.

My thing Is he was being recruited to run the def at LSU so if they reaching out after the season we had what does that tell you? They could have anyone on def as a coach but they picked him to come do an interview. The man has some skills he just got to get the weapons and the guys have to understand the def. I seen to many broke plays bc the def didn't do there assignment period. Just wait when they start hitting on all cylinders its going to be fast playin

Bum may/may not be a touch harsh, however, 4th and 17 will forever live in infamy, as will several other head scratchers from last season. Now, things weren't all bad on D (several bright spots), but it seems Baker can't "put it all together" with his formations on a consistent basis.

A scoring O from de facto HC/OC Lashlee will make Baker's D look "better".
I keep hearing this but I'm not buying any of it. A high scoring offense may result in more wins, but the defense is still the defense. Until he changes things, he'll allow other teams to hang around until it bites us. The stats don't matter, he has to do better on money downs and get the defense off the field.

Our best players are going to be on the bench like last year while we see walk ons and true freshman get abused getting equal reps just for the sake of “rotating to build depth bro”.... fckn clowns the only thing I like about this defense is the players.

/ ok I’m done moping had to get it out of my system for the week.

It should however help with things such as field possession and time of possession which alone would help any defense. How many times in the last 2 years did we see quick 3 and outs and until last year our punts would go less than 30 yards? It could also help making a team one dimensional. If we go up quick, hard for a team to stick to its gameplan.

Translation: Defense has a lot of talent across the board. But he's worried about LB as no one has emerged as the top dog. Fair?

Carter isn’t starting at Safety on any top 20 team I can think of... Pre Rona. He has been beyond mediocre at Safety.

It’s a reason why a lot of high scoring offenses still lose plenty of games... that’s bc they can score 50 but the defense is going to give up 57. High tempo offenses get on the field and off the field either scoring or punting the fastest wearing the defense out. Most teams don’t have the depth of talent on defense (including Miami) to not get worn down defensively due to the speed of the game. And an injury anywhere on defense will just make it that much more of a nightmare scenario.

Also we have to keep in mind that Manny doesn’t have any game day experience as a HC over a spread high tempo offense and balancing that with his defense. Manny got out coached against FIU and Central Michigan... The idea that we are going to be blowing out teams 60-10 year 1 is definitely drinking the Kool aid.
