Big Ten Football

There is long term risk with a lot of things. A bad flu can cause serious issues like bacterial pneumonia, which kills more people in this age group than covid by an order of magnitude. Cigarettes have direct links to cancer, but we let people choose to buy them and take the risk. There are thousands of car accidents every day in this country - 40,000 people die every year but there are estimated 4.4 million people who require medical care due to the crashes. I’m sure there are many long term conditions that are associated with that. For just football, CTE and head trauma is a huge risk and has been for some time .. contact and non contact injuries can cause very long term issues - paralysis, mobility issues, etc. I guess we just need to live inside forever because of long term risks. This is the new boogeyman I guess. First it was flatten the curve. Then it was stop the spread. Then it was lockdown until a vaccine. Now it’s long term risks. It never ends

Source: Big Ten presidents are meeting today. All options are on the table. There's some presidential momentum for canceling the fall football season. It's unknown if there's enough support to make that decision today.

I read that.
I'm curious as to how many presidents equates to "some"?

I love how covid is gonna vanish after winter. Ya know cause all the “dont tread on me” Americans are gonna get a vaccine if it’s widely available

It's always kicking the can down the road. There is no "until."

You're a doctor, will your hospital end up requiring vaccination?

My guess is most companies will do what they do with flu shots. Get it or put a sticker on your badge and be forced to wear a mask at work

The commissioner is favoring a spring start. Seems likely imo. Well see what happens. Still a month before any games are played so a lot can happen. 247 hinted at a reshuffling of a schedule within the acc

So, I have to tear down another schedule?

So what happens when this doesn’t go away? Because, you know, it won’t. And if hopes and dreams are pinned on a vaccine, realize that the flu vaccination only has a 40% success rate and 1.5 million people die worldwide annually because of TB. Insanity

We have had pandemics for thousands of years and believe it or not the population keeps growing. We are not extinct. This pandemic really isn't any worse than the one from the '50s and '60s. The reaction here is incredible.

Meanwhile Sweden laughs. Their kids are in school, their economy hasn't suffered as much and they likely have reached herd immunity.

I’m with you 1000%. The only thing is the media and a good chunk of our population is driven by fear and as long as it’s around they’ll keep finding ways to shut things down

read a book on saturdays or strap yourself up in pads and play at the park to get a football fix. cancelled or not, you can survive a fall without football if thats what happens. we havent won in like 20 years so another season wont make a diff. well be fine. well all survive whether or not we get a season this fall. no ones life on this board will end if thats the decision that is made. in the meanwhile, watch the NBA, MLS, or MLB thats currently going on for a sports fix.

Miami plays the first game on the 10th so that means they're gonna have to start practicing in pads with contact soon.... If things go well and no one gets infected and by that I mean players and staff then other teams/ conferences will follow suit.... By no means am I saying that's how it's gonna play out but it's one scenario...
