Big 10 proposes immediate eligibility for all transfers

Untrue. The league and the nfl players do not want those under 21. That is the bargained deal. This has been litigated in the clarret case. Circuit court said no anti trust violation. And I think that was Sotomayer for the court who is a lib.

There is the NFL's official reason and then there is the actual reason.

"The more accurate reason for the NFL’s position is that the league wants to protect its free farm system. The three-year rule forces players to play college football. Which keeps college football coaches happy, by preventing the NFL from pilfering a work force that gets only room, board, tuition, and snacks in return for extensive efforts and physical sacrifices."

The appeals court overturned the lower court ruling because courts will virtually never invalidate collectively bargained agreements. A super lib like Sotomayor would have zero desire to weaken unions by invalidating a collectively bargained deal. Thats why there was no anti-trust violation. The Supreme Court denied cert because it's a basic tenet of labor law.

The NFL players union has no desire to have 18 year olds in the nfl. That means highly paid older players are going to lose their jobs to cheaper, younger talent. Those college kids aren't union members so the actual members have every reason to keep them out.

What's right is right- an 18 year old should have the ability to forgo college and play in the NFL if he has the ability.

How is that a good idea? I like most of your posts. But that one doesn’t make sense.

NFL doesn’t want children. 17 year old children declaring and going undrafted lose the ability to get a free education. People have lost contact with the reality that most college players’ most valuable commodity is the free degree because they ain’t going to the league. You should never design any rule so that it is focused on an outlier fact pattern. The one or two clowney types can do their 3 years and then still be millionaires.

Three years of college ball or 21 works well.

I get your point. I'm not saying its invalid. I'm just a big believer in liberty and capitalism. People should be free to make their own mistakes and go into their chosen profession. A degree is important, but I don't want to deny opportunities because I'm trying to protect people from bad judgment.

My cutoff line is the age where a person is allowed to vote for President and choose to join the military- a profession where you literally be ordered to your death. I think a drinking age of 21 is bullsh!t. Again- the govt believes you are mature enough to make a decision to join the infantry but not mature enough to buy alcohol. If you want to raise the voting age to 21 and say that is when you can buy cigarettes, booze, **** and decide to join the military, then I'm on board with a rule saying you can't be in the NFL unless you are 21.
