Best time to fire Golden is...

It is now clear, that for all his good qualities, Al cannot coach at this level. Saving the next recruiting class and the great start we have on 2016 is the important thing. So the replacement must be ready when you fire Al. Chud and Gregg are on the sidelines. I would pick one of them. Then you can kiss Al goodbye after Cincy, we will probably have 3 or 4 loses by then. New HC might be stuck not be able to change staff immediately because it is during season. He should probably keep the best recruiters, except Coley, and maybe Ice. I think mid-season fire is necessary for recruiting. There is no reason to expect anything different this season than what has gone on for four years. Replays of Monday will hurt recruiting so major change is needed before the end of season.

he would get his buy out.

maybe the next coach would understand he needs to win.

All coaches understand that already. But they're not going into a situation in which the AD or president will fire someone one game into a season. There are too many jobs available to have to walk into a situation like that.

i really don't get this line of thinking. im not trying to be a ****.

i don;t have a dog in the fight but if he's done he's done. whack him.

this is such a loser mentality. don't fire the guy who's not getting it done because it might send a bad message to the next guy.

jesus man.

It's not a loser mentality at all. No one said not to fire the guy. You just don't fire the guy after one week of a new season. And you're not worried about sending a bad message to the next guy? Cool, then don't expect anyone except some new project to come in here. You can act all Billy Bad *** and fire a guy after one game, but real coaches around the country will then know to stay away from that loony bin that will fire someone based on emotion.

You don't have to get this line of thinking because no one will ever offer you a job that requires uprooting everything to commit to a location, only to have the constant threat of having it yanked out from under you if someone gets mad. So it's not surprising that you don't get it.

Because no coach in America will want to come here, that's why.

it's not one game. it's his whole tenure at miami + 1 game.

last time i checked UM had history...some national titles...sitting in south florida which is like the #1 place for recruits.

GTFO if you don't think someone would want to coach UM.

it isn't emotion. golden failed. show him the door and get on with it.

USC whacked kiffin at the airport. at the ******* AIRPORT.

and they have a cloud bigger than you guys can hide behind. ncaa ****ed them in the ***...and they fired kiffen for getting blown out at asu.

sometimes you just need to act.

Who are all of these coaches who are lining up to coach at UM? Because the last two times we had an opening, we had to settle for guys who none of us wanted. You can keep living in this Polyanna world where UM is some great destination for winning multiple national titles, but coaches out there don't see it that way. Then you want to add to the charm by dropping a guy after one game? Yeah, that will have Bill Belichick getting his agent on the phone with UM.

If I'm the idiot, show me the precedent for firing a guy after one game.

If you fire AG you hire Christbol or let Coley be the head coach but hire different OC and DC.

So some of you want Golden to be fired now only to be replaced by D'Onofrio, who is the currently the assistant HC (and at least on paper) next in line?

yeah-right-o.gif

I'll pass... If you were to fire him, it should be after the season is over so the next coach will be able to bring in his own people.

start making inquiries now. if you don't want to/can't pay top dollar start looking at overachieving coordinators.

A&M. baylor. if you want defense look at msu.

i don't claim to know florida. but i feel pretty strongly that if you think golden isnt the answer there is not much point in delaying this.

That might work in Madden, but coordinators aren't taking job inquiries in the first week of September. Some knowledge of how the industry works would be helpful. Firing him now does absolutely nothing.

My point in starting this thread was actually to see if anyone was still wanting Al to continue. No one has come to that defense. So we're all in agreement that Al is toast. It's just a question of when.

Some are uncomfortable with firing after only one game; conveniently forgetting last year's failures. Yes, he was the right guy during the cloud, etc. He has great PR skills; which he mostly uses to save his own butt.

As a head football corch, Al is now a proven cancer, and that cancer needs immediate removal. Don't really care how the surgery is done. Bloodletting is never pretty. At the very minimum, Blake & Donna should immediately fire the two coordinators, and see if Al will fall on his sword (doubtful), saving The U a bundle.

as much as I am in the fire Al now camp, it simply is not going to happen. the administration had the perfect opportunity to fire him during the Penn State situation--when Al clearly showed he would rather be there than here--but chose not to act. the administration seemingly does not value football wins as much as we do; they value academic ranking and seem to be OK with a middle of the road football program. yes, positive exposure is a good thing and football has a chance to bring in revenue, but Donna is all about the academics. While we want the old-school swag and dancing after every play, they do not. Al is a good face for the program from the university's perspective-well spoken, polished, says all the right things--a great used car salesman as some here have described him. unfortunately, he can't coach up the talent he has amassed. he only goes if the U brand is tarnished under his watch--and I mean majorly tarnished scandal style. part of me thinks that the school feels some sense of loyalty to him for forgetting to bring up that whole NCAA investigation thing when they hired him. if we continue to lose, and attendance sinks and kids decommit, or if Pell Grant II happens, then, maybe, a change is made...

True, we all agree that Al should go, but nothing is accomplished by firing him now.

I have been a Golden supporter since day 1. I gave him the benefit of the doubt in regards to the investigation and the **** sandwich he was handed a couple months after he took the job. Dude can be a good CEO, but he just doesn't hire good enough coordinators. I could deal with all his position coaches he hires had we had good coordinators. Good coordinators would gameplan around our deficiecies and mask the issues. Our coordinators have no clue. They can't gameplan and don't make adjustments. That's where the HC needs to step in and say WTF???? I was really hoping this season was different. Cloud gone. Seemed like we had better attitudes, better physical builds, and momentum!

Now after week 1, I have lost all confidence. I just don't see it happening. I thought all along as the talent built up we would make up for any shortcomings by simply having superior playmakers. Which we do have all over the roster. Our coordinators simply can't design plays on either side to put our STUDS in a position to make **** happen. It all falls on Golden and I DO NOT see him making any changes.

I don't know when the right time is but we need a change. I for one, would be all in on Chud being our next head ball coach. He can be the head man and run the offense with maybe Dorsey as the offensive assistant and QB coach. Bring in Winston Moss to run the defense. Can Kehoe immediately. Keep Ice on the staff and fill in the blanks with the other spots. Only problem I see is Chud wanting to move on the the NFL...

Like I said I have no idea when the right time is but this needs to happen.
