Best housing facilities in the country....

The campus has completely changed in the past 5 years. My daughter started in Fall of 2012 - at that time, the Shalala student center didn't exist and most of that side of Lake osceola was under construction. Improvements to the music school, theater etc. The Rat was in a temporary state, moving from what is now Lime to it's current location. The kids literally walked through construction zones to go around that side of a lake. By Fall of 2013 it was all done and beautiful and it's hard to even remember when it wasn't there. Work has also been done on a number of the classroom buildings and most recently, the new UHealth building was constructed on what used to be an empty space next to the Wellness Center and the Bridge of Dreams constructed across the lake at the foot of the pool. I know Donna Shalala wasn't a friend to athletics but she sure got some big $$ raised for projects and elevated the academic reputation of the school, which in turn brings in other kinds of donors. President Frenck, the current president, is the consumate fundraiser and he gets the connection between successful athletics and the continued growth of the rest of the university. And what sport brings spotlight to any university on a national field? FOOTBALL For what it's worth, CMR is exactly the kind of coach this administration can support - there are no worries on their part he will compromise the integrity of the university etc to achieve athletic goals. CMR's success on the football field this year can be directly correlated to the more than 40,000 applications the university received for a class of like 2000 students. More football success = more exposure = bigger opportunities for fundraising and donations for ALL programs at the U.
Great Post , and so true each day that passes makes my sons decision easier ......we live in upstate NY and i think he understands the opportunity presented to him.......i have always been a fan and have traveled to the U a number of times but this last time was truly incredible , I took him on visits this summer to RIT , Johns Hopkins , Cornell , Alabama and Case Westen Resrve ........Bama and Cornell were the only other D1 schools .......Honestly w/ Miamis upgrades they are very comparable to Alabama which was very beautiful in itself because it has that SEC southern appeal but Miami has come a long way with there new infrastructure and now the new IPF and Dormitories will take it even further......again i was there 10 years ago 5 years ago last and now this tour.......UNBELIEVABLE........anyone who says we are lagging behind simply has not been there to see the progress plus the location to what and where you can go and do is beyond belief ......South Beach , Heat , Marlins , Panthers and Dolphins w/in 20-25 min radius UBER.......Coconut Grove and so much more.......Nice hearing from "U" i purchased season tix as soon as my sons football season ended maybe we can meet up......

We are from NY, too - metro NYC area, on LI. My son is a sophomore in the Business school. My daughter just moved back to NY- she got her BS degree and then stayed for another year and got her masters in Public Health at Miller School of Medicine. Both my kids are pretty salty about the upgrade in dorms! LOL We also have season tickets for football and try to get down for as many home games as we can. Last year was pretty unbelieveable - we are going to Texas to the LSU game and have booked a hotel already for FSU. Really excited for the season. If your son makes the decision to go to UM he will not be sorry. My son initially thought he "should do his own thing" so we looked at schools all over the country. After all of that, he decided that Miami was really the best for him so he followed my daughter down there. I would be more than happy to answer any questions, etc. You can DM me anytime - would love to meet another NY Cane fan

Never realized the man-made lake on campus was named after a Seminole. #WTF?!?!??

It's true. Also, the Iron Arrow jackets were provided by Chief Howard Osceola. That's why I don't get when people try to mock us about the Seminole tribe owning the Hard Rock organization. Miami has a tradition steeped in Seminole history.

This should finally shut up those smug "we have such the best lobby on campus!" Hecht dwellers.

We did Future Cane Day this morning. He is pretty stoked about The Villages. He knows he has to do his time in the Towers. He was okay with it. For him, it is either Miami or the Air Force Academy. Just got his appointment yesterday. Dorms at the Zoo (Air Force Academy) are just as awful. LoL. No clue what he is going to decide. Completely different experiences. I doubt there are 100 kids majoring in Aerospace Engineering and probably maybe one or two who are AFROTC. Only 75 kids in the Detachment with 15 from UM. Pretty much one on one for the kid.

First Look?????

It's a CGI video. It's fake.

True to your name.

You’re probably the only person that actually didn’t understand that it was a first look at an artistic rendering or computer rendering of what they will look like when completed.

Just like when you walk into an architect’s office, people don’t think that the little tiny model sitting on the table are the real thing.

I've seen plenty of prototype. We all have.

This was not a first look.

BTW, I'm a proud Paskudnyak.

I guess you need upgraded housing to justify $70,000 per year in tuition, room, and board.
